I have a boy who is 4. Full of energy, likes to build things (legos, megablocks and etc...). Already got him his first fishing rod and reel. He has transformers, star wars figures and ships but the toy that he seems to play with most is megablocks. He makes guns, planes, cars and robots with them.
Any toys out there he might like?

These little gagets are great for kids. Also, kids love the sandbox. Makes a mess and provided the time of year may not be a good investment now but in the summer and spring kids can play in that sandbox for hours on end. Toys_R-Us you can pick one up with top on it to cover for like $55.00 not including sand which they also carry.

with the magnectics,, They have little balls that are perfect for a kid to choke on.. All rules are made for a reason right, well my kid got all the magnectics taken out of his school because he did choke on one, he is 5 years old and knows better than to put stuff like that in his mouth but for some reason he did and the heimlic had to be performed.....
Watch your kids closely if you choose to let them play with those toys...

Sandboxes are fine but you have too watch out for cat droppings because cats think it's a big kitty litter box so when the kids are done it would be wise to cover it up just my opinion.:)

thanks guys for the advice. I saw the magnet toys and remember hearing something on the news about them being a choking hazard. Since I have a 18 month old girl, I'm going to have to pass on that.
Going to Toys R Us tonight to get them gifts, wish me luck. Anybody got coupons?

Does he have a nice filet knife yet? Never too young for a filet knife...as long as it isn't my children...:)

Last night, Toy R' Us was a zoo... lots of people, no room to maneuver your cart. Found a pre-school size magnetic building toy, all sold out. I'm going to wait after the holidays to get them.
husky, you wanna trade your penn mag 525 for new Daiwa SHA20?

No way jose.
You don't like your Daiwa SHA20?
I went to the ToysRUs on rt 355 in Rockville the other night. The entire video game section was cleared out. Even old stuff like Xbox and Game Boy Advance games were empty.

Have you learned to cast straight yet? Cause When I measure distance it doesn't count if you cast 100 yards to your right and land on the beach next to some other fisherman!!!
I still cast the same as I always have. So, if you want to outcast me, you know how far to get. Right around 90-100 yards. i guess I just don't fish enough to improve my distance.

Does he have a nintendo DS? My 4 year old is starting to get into that? How about a book on Java programming. You have to start him young if you want him to support your fishing habit when you are older...

I've looked into LeapFron Leap Pad with writing but that thing is like 50 bucks with books costing 10 dollars each...
Does Nintendo DS have educational software?
Java developers don't make that much money... big bucks start with MBAs from John Hopkins... :D

"educational"...not really. "fun" = yes.
My 6 year old is a game boy junkie and my four year old is now just really starting to play video games. They pick it up really quickly. My 6 year old can easily beat me now at games I had to painstakingly show him how to play.
If your wife is making you go educational, there's that v-tech system or the leap frog. My 6 yr old is getting a game boy micro ($35 on black friday) so my 4 year old will inherit his game boy advance.
Does your son like Dinosaurs or regular legos (assuming he doesn't stick them in his mouth)? My four year old loves the Imaginext dinosaurs. We found out from a friend that whenever he goes to their house to play, he spends the whole time playing with the Imaginext dinosaurs. Another friend says he'll spend hours playing legos.

For learning toys, you really can't beat any of the Leap Pad products. They are a little on the pricey side, but my kid (3 1/2) loves them and learns mucho from them. Getting him the Leapster L-Max for Christmas this year .
Looked into the sandbox thing, but bought 4 2x12's? and some screws and a tarp to keep the cats out for right around $50. Good luck with your search! Neat thing I'm finding out about young kids is that they just love to get a gift and love playing with toys etc... that may not be as complicated as grown ups sometimes think they need to be - if that makes sense
