On my next trip to the beach, I'm gonna do the unthinkable.
I'm gonna do some side by side comparisons between braid and mono...
Braid as mainline with mono casting leader, mono mainline with braid casting leader, etc.
I gotta slick 6500CT full of 20# Fireline, a 5500CT full of 14# Fireline, a spankin' new 525 full of 17# Siege, and an old standby 525 full of 20# TBG. Hopefully, I'll also have two new rods to play with...
May not catch a single fish, but I'll be busy, casting and swapping gear around.
Might even take BartyB and Surf Fish along as witnesses....;)
Let the games begin....

I'm all over it, next Wednesday, but one question...Are we gonna split the cost of the 18-wheeler rental so we can haul all our CRAP??? :p :p
I think Surf Fish has a CDL endorsement....:D :D
We just gotta make sure he airs down ALL 18 tires...:D :D :D
Oh, BTW...Are we gonna need any bait? Or are we just gonna stand on the beach, trucks all bristling with rods, looking COOL!

Aw don't be so modest RR both you guys can prob outcast me with a cane pole. :D I think I misinterpreted the experiment. Thought the same combo was being used with braid and mono leader and then switched to mono with braid leader. Sorry for my lack of attention to detail. :D Good luck and i'm looking forward to the report. Tight Lines :D

From what I've heard, an 18wheeler would be just enuf for BartyB's gears only. :D ;) :p

Yup I can see it now if BartB and RR set up just a small amout of thier rods they might get arrested for having a tackle show on the beach without a permit

Wait...I got it!!! 30 lb braid with an 80 lb braid "shock leader" coupled to 200 lb test stranded wire leader on a 5500 CT. Should be good for a Pompano!!!:D Use the smokestacks on the 18 wheeler as rod holders. P.S. Take plenty of beer to take care of the monotony. Then again, ya could just use a 525Mag with whatever and catch a few fish:D :D :D

This is getting interesting.Barty and RailRoader are taking the ABU's to catch 8" whiting, so they can toss them out on a Penn reel to catch real fish.I'm not even gonna touch the braid-mono deal. Then Big Book says Barty doesn't have enough a$$ to bend a rod.:D Last time I fished with BigBook(Huguenot Park), he have several ABU's that were knotted up pretty good.
I'll have to end it here as I'm packing up for a trip to Sebastian Inlet where the real fish are.:p

We're going Wed. Starting at the point at nassau sound and maybe sliding down to talbot or Hugenot. The north end of H.P. looked good Sat. morning as I drove by, Lots of potholes and runouts. NOW, Just because your 2 feet taller than me and have me by like 200lbs :p Don't think I can't bend it! It's all in the technique :D Hopefully I can pick up my 1569 from Steve tomorrow. ( I just wanna play with it)
So,Benthook, Did you catch any "REAL FISH" or did ya drive three hours get skunked!? :D :p

Interested in the results.....one thing forsure...any blowups on such a small fast reel (5500ct w/ 14# braid) and thin braid will not be fun.
Happy holidays to All!!!!!
