I've been surfin and studying for a rod for my Blue Yonder ....... I want to keep the Price under $100 ....... it needs to be able to throw 4-5 oz's with 6 being max on rare days ....... it will be used as a middle ground rod ....... Flounder, Blues, Stripers, Puppy Drums ........

Rod #1 is a Daiwa Emcast 1102 HFB 11' 20-40LB 4-7OZ

Rod #2 is a TSUNAMI 1102XH 11' 20-40LB 4-6OZ

Rod #3 is a Tica 733502C 11' 15-40LB 3-8OZ

Rod #4 is a OM not sure of the Model but the middle weight one Wished they had an 11'er

Kinda leaning towards the Daiwa at the moment ...... Randy has the first three at the Baitshack ........

Any input would be a big help .......

Might as well put them in there too ....... How about a Surf King 11'er rated 3-8

This rig might also be used as my hold 'em rig so weight will have some factor in it .....

Merry Christmas ....... May all your Santa's be Fishing Santa's :D

My choice in the 100 dollar range is the Ocean Master 10 footer rated 1-4 for pups. Pups are in close most of the time. The build quality is amazing for the price and I can throw mine a ling way with 4 oz and bait. Oh my Blue Yonder looks good on that rod.
The Lami Surfking would be another to look at, they don't know how to build a bad rod.

Penn Pro Guide.

IMHO better then the first three you mentioned. It's the only surf rod I own thats not custom.
Not sure about the OM in that weight range.

mantriumph.....sounds good ..... man with the same reel ...... it's one of my front runners

Digger ....... how does the OM Lite handle 5-6 oz .... I know they are made a little heavy ..... 4-5 is what it's going to mainly see ..... really would like to hear from someone with a Lami and BY ....... I've got the OM XH in spin .... great rods ....

the rhondel ....... just the extra wieght on the OM worries me ...... But I would love to find a Daiwa Sealine in 11' 4-7 oz ......

sand.trout ....... Haven't heard much about the Penns ....... will check them out

I'd really like to hear from someone with an OM 12' in 3-6 oz ......

Well I own a Lami 11' one piece and it tosses 3 & 4 oz great and I use my Abu 6500C4 for mainly tossen metal also picked up a Rain Shadow 1267 and so far love it too . Only problem is I don't know if you will find to many Lamis or RS in the $100.00 price range but if you can jump on it.

I have never put that weight on it since I have a Allstar 1418/2 but I can out throw my 12" tica with it(the Tica with 6 and 4 on the OM) I feels like it will handle more than 4 I just have never tryed it. But again pups are normally in the wash.

Here's two cents worth from from the ol' GLoomis blasphemer....

The 10' OM Lite isn't gonna like 5 ounces, at all. Too much weight.

The 12' OM Lite will shine like a new penny with 5 or 6 oz. The butt's a little fat, but a GREAT rod for $89.00.

The "old" Daiwa Sealine has been replaced by the "Emcast"...blanks are the same lengths, rated the same, just styled differently. The 11' 4-7 oz. LOVES 4 oz. and oughta throw 5oz. pretty good, but 6 oz.???....I doubt it. Gonna be a little much.

The Daiwa Emblems are NICE rods for $100.00, but are GROSSLY over rated. I have a 12 footer rated 5-8oz. I believe a hard cast with 6oz. would destroy it...Should be rated 2-4.

I have practical fishing experience with all the above mentioned rods, but keep in mind that I have never fished "Da Point", I can only cast about 400 feet on a good day, I don't yet own a custom rod, and I've only fished 77 days this year....And, I try not to sound like I've got the bottom half of a 15' Ugly Stick hanging out of my hind end when I answer questions, and someone's opinion differs from mine.:p :p

Your mileage may vary....;)

In your price range, The OM lite 3-6 serves me well but strains w/6 and bait.
The Tica is a good rod for the weight but the build quality sucks.
Like RR said the Emblem is a great rod for 2-4 DISSREGARD THE FACTORY RATING!!!
Now, I heard from a reliable friend that the Cabellas Salt Striker CSS-CTS12 2-6oz cork grip casting model was a great rod for under 100$ His review was, It will throw 3oz, likes 4,loves 5 and handles 6 well.
Other than these you will have to up your price range at least 60 bucks to step up to the next level.

Like I said with a 1418/2 and a Tica 12 foot. Mine will never be requested to to that duty. Now when I had 10 Sealine-x I would throw a eel and 6 with it, not hard mind you, but I was in the 75-80 yards off a pier. Again the key here is it is for pups. I guess I need to ask where are you fishing that you need that much weight and distance for pups? I think I need to visit this place. I really see no problem with 5 oz Again not slinging hard again since pups are normally in close.

Digger ...... It's not just for pups ....... just a middle ground rod ....... might be just on the other side of the first bar ....... might be out to the second bar .....

If I go to the next level it would be a LDX ....... but it's a $100 or less X-mas money rod ......

The Lamiglas Surf King goes for $90 at Digital Dagger

I agree you can not beat a Lami. In March I will field measure that rod. But last summer there was a day I hit a crab pot 4 times with 3 rods(thesame pot). I broke off on the first cast(The OM 10) then I hit with the Tica 12 and then the OM 12 heavy.Ok we have 40lbs plus pulling.I laid out a cst and hooked up trying to avoided the pot.

You should put away more money, wait alittle longer and try to put a $200+budget together.

Then check out Ste. Croix Surf rods. I have a 8' 2oz limit and a 7' lower rated for casting out from my yak or the beaches I land on. They make excellent big sticks as well.

You get what you pay for and they are American made.

Personally,i chose not to buy the surf king in casting due to its shorter handle.I prefer a rod with at least 24 inches to the start of my reels.I have never handled the surf king, but from what i see on the web site its showing 20 inches on the model i would assume is the caster.

Wow .... glad you caught that ....... I looked and it might be only 21" to the middle of the reel seat ...... so for an experiment I have a square yard stick and held it like a rod ....... wow with a grip like I would need with a SK I can't get my right arm straight without pointing staight up into the sky .... mid to higher 20's feel alot better to me
