Any suggestion on a rod for Penn Mag525 with HO mods? Will be fishing 4 to 10 oz... mostly on the bay with trips to ocean (AI, OBX and etc...)
Kind of thinking a step up from Ticas, Tsunamis...
Rainshadow, Breakaway, Lami, Gloomis, St. Croix?

One rod ain't gonna cover 4 to 10 oz...But not to worry. $200.00 will cover you.
Get yourself a pair of Ocean Masters, a 12' 6-12oz for the heavy stuff, and a 10' or 12' medium for the lighter stuff....
They are a step up from Tica, etc. and nice durable rods for the money. Bass Pro is sellin' 'em at $89 each.
May need another 525, though...;)

hey RR,
I already got a ABU 6600 Mag C5 and Tsunami for light application in the bay, mostly throwing 4 or 5 oz...
Need something for the ocean that can handle 6 and up, and besides I feel like its a waste to pair the 525 with the Tsunami... Daiwa saltiga ballistic rod sure looks pretty...
i just found out that the guides on the daiwas are both for spinning and conventional... interesting...

SS, you said a "step up" not "Quantum Leap"....:p :p
That Ballistic sure IS a nice lookin' rod....;)
I've done a little reading about it, and it sure seems like a winner, but they may be a little hard to come by until the "new product" dust settles...
Somebody's gotta buy one! I'll be waiting for your report!!!:D

Well at 13' 3" I would imagine it would be easier to transport or ship in 3 sections.

I use a 525 on everything between 6' and 12'. Its great on them all but if you must keep it down to just three rods, I would go with a seven footer, a ten footer, and a twelve footer. You will be really suprised to see how well it does on a seven footer. Of course the main spec being 4-10 oz. on them all.

Perhaps i should just tell him that Rain shadow makes a rx7 blank to fit his needs of 4 to 10.

I am a rookie to the surf fishing game and just recently converted to the conventional "dark side".
I have a 525 MAG HO conversion on a 12' Ocean Master heavy. Both are very nice and surprisingly easy to cast for a beginner.
Definately worth the price!
