I spent the day sorting my hooks and ran across these fellas.

I have seen them on mackerel rigs and some flounder rigs but what I would like to know is if these hooks have a good use and do people use them for anything? I assume the long shank may be good for bluefish to keep them from biting the leader but I would like to get some expert (and not so expert) opinions

somebody told me one time to hook whole shrimp ....

I was cleaning out my box and found a Sabiki rig ..... guy last year gave me some leader ... I thought it was wire and opened it up today and it was 60lb calcutta camo leader plus the sabiki rig in there .......

they are good for big soft plastics for catching kings and dorado.

I use them for sheephead and mackerel. If they're small enough, you can fish for sheephead by covering the end of the hook with shrimp or clam. I just do this because sheepshead have those gnarly teeth that can shred light leader sometimes. Same idea for macks. the shank makes them easier to unhook too.

The Chestertown hooks are usually snelled and often used in building Flounder rigs.

There have been a few times I used a rig(flounder) that I borrowed and immediately cut off the hook and replaced it with a suitable one...Freaks some people out.

Thanks Tom. I figured as much. I have had them in my tackle collection for many years and I was wondering if I was missing something. I usually see them on flounder rigs in Wal Mart but I never could see using them for that.

I usually end up using Kahle or Octopus style Circle hooks for flounder rigs. What types of hooks do you use? I know you are very proficient at hunting flatties!

So this goto lure of yours is for flatties only? Sounds like trout might like this too!

I will have to check it out and test it with ya come April.
