Reading alot of good things about the Emcast Plus reel. Seems that it gets the distance for a spinner.....What rod would be most compatable for distance?

PS. What reel and rod combo would you recommend for spin casting distance? Thank you for your reply.

hi hooker, The emcast is a very good reel for the money. With it's wide spool you can achieve maximum distance and with the 11 ball bearing system it is as smooth as big reels come. I highly recommend that you get either a 12' OM heavy or light/medium. I purchased the exact same combo about 3-4 years ago from BPS. I also purchased a Diawa Emblem Pro with the 12' OM heavy and immediately got close to a $45.oo discount on that combo cause it was a product of BPS. Check with them at the counter to see if they offer the same discount for that combo. If they do then I would definately suggest getting that combo. It was either the Emcast/OM or Emblem/OM that I got the discount for and it was a very significant discount.

You still will beifit from braid just due to the smaller diameter.

works just fine with braid. I have two Emcast plus 5000 and the are loaded with 20lb test power pro and she can fly. I match them up on A Tica 12' and a OM heavy12' and the both are out of this world. Tight lines:fishing:

Fishbait, on my emblempro I have mono backing with braid. I had bps spool it for me and they did an excellent job, very tight and even throughout.

If you are thinking of changing the taper of the spool and not have it even spooled, you might run into some problem with braid. From my understanding you are trying to back it with mono on a reverse taper? If you have some instrument or a great eye to get that reverse spool evenly aligned with the backing then I would say go fot it. Usually when backing is not properly aligned then you run into a huge problem with it coming out very uneven when you spool the braid or mono line. Are you trying to get the whole line set in the spool reversed tapered? If so, then you are going to run into a huge problem, especially with braid when you are on a big fish or for some apparent reason get hung up. The 'No give" factor will tear right into that taper and it will dramatically effect your casting. Basically the braid will eat right into about 3-5 roataions of line and cause a huge headache.

I am sure there is a reason for the spool design of the emcast. I had both my emcast spooled commercially with mono backing and with braid as the main line it came out very even. It must be in the design. I would suggest to start the mono backing from the bottom and carefully manuever the incoming line with your fingers for an even spread.

Fingers,

Will be using this combo for drum and stripers at Cape Point. For the price, the OM appears to be the best deal, however, the Cape Point looks like a long slinger.
