I've been tearing down and doing maintenence on all my reels in the last couple weeks. I'm new at this but generally I do alright, I've had everything from Penn Senators and GS's to Daiwa bass casting reels to a variety of spinning reels down to a pile of springs and screws and back again. With the exception of a couple (well a few :() dog springs in the Penn reels I haven't had any problems, until tonight. For some reason I decided to pick up the Ambassadeur Brute 6500 I cleaned/lubed the other day and reel it really fast. Upon stopping reeling I noticed the spool travelled maybe a half-turn and the reel made a buzzing noise, like what the bait clicker would make. It only does this when I reel fast and stop abruptly. I took the reel apart, everything appeared fine. All I can figure is that the pinion gear has some play in it when the reel is together and this is allowing it to pretty much lose contact with the main gear on these abrupt stops? The clicker is off, thats not the problem, but the buzzing noise seems to back the idea that the pinion keeps spinning even after the main gear stops. I took a N.I.B 6500C4 I had laying around and noticed it does the same thing, just not to the same extent. Anyone else had this problem, and is there any way to fix it?

The only reason the on you rebuilt spins longer is you have made it smoother and thus it is gonna be a little harder to control but a better caster when tuned to your liking. Pay close attention to the pinion, it is cut to allow the overrun you describe............Good fishing to you
