I'm thinking of buying a Thunnas 12000 for my Lamiglas 10 MHS 3-8 oz rod. But the description of the reel says its 31 ozs. thats 10 ozs heavier than my Penn 5600. Anyone fish with Thunnas 12000 or 6000 - do them seem heavy to hold play etc ?

Bluesman,
I have the Shimano Thunnus 12000 . Great, solid reel but is too heavy for my 11' rod that it is on. I am looking for a lighter live liner reel now.

I'm going to look at the 6000 thunnas and the 5600 penn liveliner maybe the bait runner. What are you interested in? Wish ther was someplace I could lay them all side by side.

I am looking at the Penn Slammer 460 L which is a liveliner as well as the Daiwa sealine series (also liveliner) both reels are lighter than the Thunnus- i am not sure on the quality? Besides weight the Thunnus is a great reel...Just don't want to get carpal tunnel while fishing:(

I pulled the trigger this morning. I ordered two Penn 5600L liveliners. I compared the weight of a shimano baitrunner 4500 I own, the Thunnas 6000 and the Penn - the Penn won. I have 3 or 4 4600 Penns, they're the predecessor to the 460L you're looking at. They are great reels, I use them for blues in the surf all the time, just wanted something with a little more capacity for chunking on the 10' lami's.

I like the 5600L (my buddy has 2, I have 2 of the Slammer 560's, the spools are interchangeable in a pinch), but the baitrunner feature on the penn is not as loud as the Shimmie Baitrunners (you may not hear it while surf fishing). If you can get to cabelas in Hamburg PA, you can sit them side by side. I was just there this past saturday, and came out with some rat-L-traps, floats, and a penn international 975LD (how'd that happen and what was I thinking?)
