For anyone with small kids or even us adult; stay off ponds.

it breaks my heart to hear stories like that ..I hope people learn that just because it has been cold doen't mean the ice is thick enough to walk on

We just drove across the Choptank bridge about 2 hours ago and saw that the river was almost completely frozen. My daughter again remarked at how she could go skating out there and I quickly reminded her that you ONLY skate in ice skating rinks here in this part of the country. It does not get cold enough for long enough periods of time to trust it. Just like ice fishing here in MD ... man it just is not worth the risk.

That's terrible. My heart goes out to that mom.

There's something terribly tempting about frozen ponds, rivers, lakes, bays etc... you just gotta walk on it
