Looking for a good rod for pin rigging. I have searched past posts but cant get a good feel of the best rod to get. Only wanna spend about $60. Im also deciding between the penn 545, daiwa 50, and the penn 4/0. Any help would be much appreciated.

Riley.

tld 15 you cant go wrong to be honest, can prlly get a nice used one on fleabay for like 75$ + shipping. or a 545/555 (id go with the 555 just for line capac reasons)

ive been usin a tiagra 20 for 4 years , love it. little heavy at times, but i love it. its gone through some big sharks and lots of beat downs in sand too, and NEVER skipped a beat. its paid for itself in full.

The nice thing about the fighting rods is they are a dime a dozen since they are used in boats. So there is a lot of compition out there. For kings you want a soft tip and a strong butt. I'm using a Penn Power stick for mine. Just go a shop and feel them out. You can find good serviceable rods for 40 bucks or go custom for as much as you want. I hope this helps.

i have 2 shimano tallus's, they arent expensive, take a freakin BEATING, and i just love the way the blank feels on them, its, for me, the best ive felt for what I want.

the 7'er i have ive had for like 4-5 years, and ive basically tried to break that rod on a few sharks, i know a few others on this board have seen me do it lol. stick the rod forgrip on the rail, and just push down on the back, making a big lever hehe. i can remember a few vivid times to where i t hought in my head "alright, when is this thing gonna break?."

great rod for kings, soft tip, very forgiving, with enuf ass to get it done with cobes/tarpon when you get em next to the pier.

is march 25, and only about a month or so away from when im gonna start droping those "early" baits over , cant wait. the warm weather is not helpin the cabin fever either...

I'm going to suggest that you go with a couple of Ocean Masters for your pin riggin' set-up.

My anchor rod is a 12' OM Heavy with a Penn Squidder full of 30# TBG. This rod has spent many hours standing straight with the line pulled very tight, withstood several pelican collisions, and has enough arse to pull the anchor at the end of the day...

My fighting rod is also a BPS rod, an OM30CA, 7' 20-30# rated. It's IM-7 graphite, weighs no more than a heavy inshore or bass rod, gimbal butt, and PLENTY of nutz for steering big fish around the pilings. The reel for this set-up is an Accurized Jigmaster, with a Penn 545 for a back-up. Both reels full of 20# TBG, with enough 40# shocker to reach the water at low tide with several wraps on the reel.

The OM's are VERY economical, built with the best of everything, and have been well proven under pressure.

If you catch a sale, both can be had for under $200...;)
