Pier rod holder

I do a fair amount of drum fishing in the surf off of piers. I was wondering if yall have any ideas of a rod holder to keep my rod from flying over the side when i walk off to use the restroom or such. I know u can slide it back but i would like to see some ideas of a portable rod holder to attach to the side of the pier like the ones used to hold the king rods on the end. Thanks in advance.

reel in before goin to the bathroom. Not kidding, especially on OBX. Loosen the drag, and ask somebody else to watch it otherwise. I have yet to see the rod holder I would trust with a surf rod, except the ones that stick straight up and are bolted to the pier.

Try PVC pipe tied to the pier.
That should work just like a sand spike.
