Slender Butt !!

Now that I have your attention, I need to know from those who have handled them, what heavers have smaller butt dia's ? I'm cursed with small hands, so I need a rod with a smaller butt at the reel seat. I'm open to a un-seated butt, so throw me some diameters or comparisons, please. Blanks or finished OK. Penn, OM, Fusion, Lami, Loomis, HDX, Diawa, RS, any others welcome.

The OM's are FAT at about 1.25" thick, The HDX is pretty thin, at 1". I think I've read that the Fusion is under an inch....

How much you looking to spend? If you're looking for a budget rod, the OM Cape Point Special has the skinniest butt due to it not having cork tape. Fusions have a 22mm butt section (just under 7/8"). Most of the other ones you mentioned are right under 1" butt diameter.

The nail,fusion,and inferno are all the same butt size,and all are interchangable..Long as the ferile doesn't knock when you shake the rod,you're good to go.. As far as I know it is definatly the smallest butt on any heaver..
I have fairly small hands as well. I only use two different reels,and can grip the diawa grandwave 20,or progear well for a cast..

They have all been pretty well covered here.

The fusion/inferno/nail butts are the thinnest I've seen on a heaver. Tommy Wheeler has done a great job with these proven, top of the line drum catching machines.

Another rod that has impressed me is the AFAW 13' beach rod. I was field testing it a few weeks ago against the HDX with 8 oz and was impressed with the way it performed. It is very lightweight (about the same as the HDX) and very powerful. The butt diameter is less than the HDX but I don't believe it is quite as thin as the Fusion. Surprisingly easy to load and I believe it will be a pleasure to fish.

I look forward to casting it again. Maybe we can get a heaver casting review day going soon... :)

Butt diameters.

Just measured the following heaver butts. in order from thinnest to fattest.

Fusion - Shrink wrap - 22mm or 7/8 inch
AFAW Beach - Shrink wrap - 24mm or 15/16 inch
Lami 1502 - Cork tape - 26mm or 1 inch
HDX - Shrink wrap - 1 and 1/16 inch
Straight 8 - Cork tape - 1.25 inches

With all due respect, I'm glad you guys are using measurements to show the size of the butts and not using your experience as "those who have handled" slender butts. Unless of course the butts were female... :D
