Looking to smoke some fresh tuna, does anyone know where to buy Alder Wood Chips locally in the Norfolk/Newport News area.
Thanks Rich

have you tried a cabinet maker...works some times...wal-mart has those little cans in different flavors...otherwise try Googleing "wood for smoking meat"...

Don't think I've ever seen alder in this area. I know Bass Pro shops has apple, cherry, hickory, mesquite. Personaly, I use oak or pecan when smoking tuna, but that's just me.
Try this, soak some oak planks(1/4") in bourbon or red wine a few days then smoke with them.

Thanks,
I tried BP and Walmart but they don't carry Alder, I ended up cutting up some apple from the tree in the back yard and it came out great. I'll have to order some off the internet next time.

Taylor's Fireside at Hill Top Va. Beach. They have the largest selection that I know of. I just picked up some apple, oak and orange there. I used to use Alder for fish in my 'Little Chiefton'. For smoking Spot, Mullet, and Blue fish, Hickory is hard to beat.

I saw some today at Taylors Do It Center off of Independence in VA Beach
