I've actually looked into owning a chipotle. you need at least 1 million in assests.

Cheapest franchise to own is probaly Quizznos. There are lot of happy Chic Fila owners out there too. They are selective in who to own it but if they select you, you need as little as 5k to open one. They will provide the financing.

ChicFilA is good company . . . Closed on Sundays because it's root are in Christianity. I looked into it as well, but you need a bit more than 5k.

Looked into a Popeyes, but you need at least
750k in cash, not assets. Same goes for IHOP. Do yourself a favor, don't go in the restaurant business. It's a ton of work, and most times, it seems the effort outweighs the payoff . . . and for you guys thinking it's hand over fist, it ain't.

My family has been in the business for more than 30 years. Grew up washing dishes, waiting tables, peeling boxes onions... I know from experiences that the restaurant business is one of the hardest businesses around...

my parents own a Japanese restaurant in Rosslyn called Kanpai. Here comes the shameful plug. :D Tom S. (food critic from Washington Post) gave it a editor's choice.

sushi anyone?

I always get that question when I wait tables at my parent's restaurant. Some Japanese customers get hostile and outraged that koreans own a japanese restaurant.

Then, I have to educate them and hopefully take them out of their ignorance.

Here is the history and reason behind why so many Koreans "own japanese" restaurants. During the japanese occupation of korea during WWII, there was a "cultural genocide" by the japanese. Not only were there elimination and suppression of korean culture, there was a forced promotion of japanese culture. Koreans were no longer to speak korean, they were not allowed to eat the korean food, the japanese wanted to make korean people, japanese.

My grandmother was taken to japan during that time and she speaks fluent japanese. My father also speaks japanese.

Once the cruel and horrific occupation ended, japanese people went back to their land but left all the tradition and culture they forced.

So to answer the question, In korean culture, there are much japanese influences, especially in food. So, its not far from them to own a japanese restaurants...

I guess it also explains the French influence in Vietnam and British influence in India...
