I'm at Tech as well; and the last I heard was 22 dead and a bunch wounded. The only other piece that I havent seen pop up on the news is that the shooter was of Asian decent. SWAT is still going around, and just came by and told me to close my door. Everyone just seems to be shocked and flustered.

Hokieboy,
I can remember my days at NCSU and I can't even imagine what you guys and gals are going through. Can't a kid go to school without the reasonable expectation that he/she is safe whilst doing so?
What a cowardly act by a sick individual.
My heartfelt condolences to those that lost loved ones today...their lives will never be the same.

Glad that our membership there are all ok!
Thankfully, the psycho-nut-job who blew a gasket and went ballistic, is dead...I hope he went down screaming.
I wonder how long it'll be before some liberal-whiny-azz gets the air-time to to try and make a victim of the shooter, and shift the blame to gun ownership??
A tragic day for the U.S. of A.

At 2AM this morning, I headed into work to get an early jump on the day and my son returned back to Virginia Tech. We'd enjoyed a great weekend searching for a GM Brand car for him to use during his 3-month summer internship with GM in Detroit. At 7:15AM he called to say he was back at school and that it was a quiet, pretty day with snow lightly falling. An engineering student, he was already heading towards his 8AM class. Sometime near 9AM he called again to say that there had been a shooting, that the school was going into lockdown and that he was safe.
I had a wonderful weekend with my son. And I will have more. For a few other parents, relatives and friends, this day will forever change their lives. I wish that they, too, could have been as fortunate and lucky as I was...

I understand that people's emotions are running high about the shooting, but some of what I've read on here tonight has disgusted me.
If you want to score political points, go somewhere else. I don't care if you're a conservative who thinks concealed carry laws would have stopped the shooter in his tracks or a liberal who thinks tighter gun laws would have prevented it. The fact is innocent people were murdered.
They are not political pawns to be used in an argument, they are not symbols; they were human beings and they deserve proper burial before we start screaming at each other.
Name-calling and political arguments will buy you a lifetime ban. Period.
Show a little respect.

My son sent this email last night at 6PM...
I’m trying to call home, but the wireless signals and land-lines are too overwhelmed. It’s truly been a surreal day, and it’s still hard to grasp how terrible this tragedy is. I’ve also been receiving waves of text messages, voicemails, and emails when the phone lines free up. I feel sorry for all those that have been trying to call me but haven’t been able to get through. If you’ve been following the news, you know as much as we do. 2 confirmed deaths in West Ambler Johnston this morning and 31 deaths in Norris Hall later this morning (including the shooter who committed suicide). Classes are cancelled for today and tomorrow, and I suspect classes may be cancelled for the remainder of the week. I too am glad I reached you before other concerned people may have. This has turned into the worst killing in US history, and it’s rather difficult to comprehend. What bothers me most right now is fingers are already being pointed back and forth, when what needs to be done is to contact the victims’ families.
Everyone here is fine though. We are all safe, feel safe, and just awaiting further instruction. Thank you for the emails and for easing everyone’s concerns. It’s been a hectic day, and I will probably be headed to bed soon.

Glad you guys are safe. Middle Wilber (Matt) is on the 4th floor in West AJ. He's ok also. Got a call from him about 9:00 yesterday am saying he OK. Then find out about the second shootings and Momma hadn't heard from her boy. Scary times. Finally get a call about 3:00 saying he's Ok after second round, Momma calms down a little and the grief sets in for the victoms and their families. Really hope Matt comes home today, for his momma's peace of mind if nothing else.
Damn sad day in Blacksberg.

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.

Hopefully there hasn't been any reprimand towards his parents. I'm not sure how I would deal with something like that if I were to have a child that exploded like that.
