One of my pride and joys is the 2 year old german shepard that my family has been a member of the family and i depend upon for reliable family protection when i am working.
unfourtunately we have found the food we were feeding has been recalled. so now iam making my own with vitamin supplement from the vet. Some of his meals are coming out of my game freezer like, venison and rice, turkey and rice. and this summer iam going to be trying some skate wings for protein
any suggestion or comments

I hope your dog is ok. Don't give em any salt, it is toxic to them. I feed my dogs IAMS Active Adult, hope that doesn't go on this dreaded list.

I have always preferred real food over dry but I have mixed it on occasion. My dog is old now (12) and he needs a mild diet (Shelties are notorious for picky tummies). What we do now is boil/baked chicken, fish, brown rice (white ok too), and green beans. At times we give him lean beef and lamb and lean pork.
There are other things to stay away from as well like raisins, grapes, chocolate etc. Stick to basic meats and vegies and you should be OK. I really hope your dog's food was not tainted.

Having 1 dog and 4 cats.
So far everything we been feeding the family has been fine; just check the codes and stay away from that Wheat Gluten.
I had to put down a dog in Sept. with all of sudden multi organ failures.
Related to this, am not sure.

I've been buying Pedigree brand. Not on the recall list, not made by menu foods and they don't use melamine(the ingredient in question).

My bad i've learned melamine is not on the ingredients list. I was quoting from the pedigree website. Should not have said ingredient.
My apologies for the confusion.
