Looked at several installs. Jim was ready to make the plunge. At poker a retired contractor (i.e. no vested interest and nothing to sell), said that he has seen shutters do more harm than good (i.e. being ripped off or panels blown out).

Jim feels they have not been fully tested here--Isabel was not a wind event and Alex was but not that bad.

So here is what he is looking for--anyone with direct experience with the performance of either rollers, accordians, or slats during a wind event?

As a contractor in SOuthwest Louisiana I strongly recommend Plywood clips yes you still have to board the house, but I feel they are more secure then the shutters. Have a contractor come and Install them and precut and label all the plywood. It is then easy to take care of things when a storm approaches. Here is a link to the clips

and a simple explanation of how they work : http://hardware.hardwarestore.com/learning/all-about-plylox-hurricane-window-clips.aspx

The florida and gulf coast boards but it was moved here, so I guess this is where the moderator wants it.

I was trying to reach the most appropriate audiences.
