Went ahead and magged an old Penn 9 that I cleaned up and replaced parts on. I epoxied a shim on the left sideplate and then placed 6 Radio Shack 1/8" rare earth magnets stacked 2 high on the shim. A couple of days ago I used my 8' Lami and was easy tossing 3 oz in my canal in DE with no fluff until touch down. Today I put it on my RS 1267 and launched 3 oz. I was very impressed with the distance (didn't take the time to measure) and decided to really lay into it. Well, my albright let go, resulting in 18' of shock leader and 3 oz. sailing out of sight and No. 9 with a big furball.
For a reel with no bearings and an antiquated levelwind, this thing really flies. Well worth the few bucks I paid at the pawn shop and repair parts. May need to pick up another and try a levelwind removal on it.
