Im planning to buy anther combo in the next few weeks. I have been looking in the offshore angler catalog and i found two combo packages that I am interested in. (pg 59 if anyone is interested)

Both combo packages come with 11' Ocean Master rod (OM11SS).

Combo 1 has an Ocean Master 10000 reel, combo price $139.98

Combo 2 has a Daiwa Emcast Plus 5000 reel, combo price is $149.94

Currently I am using a 10' Ocean master paired up with a Daiwa Emcast Plus 6000. I really like the feel of the rod so with my new addition I was going to stick with the same kind but adding an extra foot. Are the ocean master reels comparable to the daiwa's? I really like the daiwa drag system. I have never tried an ocean master reel before and was wondering weather the drag system was just as good. I am leaning towards the daiwa right now because I have no experience with ocean master reels.

As a general rule, when you buy any "Combo Deal" at a great price, you are getting screwed somewhere. One piece will be significantly better quality than the other.

Better bet is to buy seperately, equipment that YOU like, and not the choice of the stock boys at the fishin' store.

Having said that, BPS usually does a pretty good job matching their components for quality, and if I was picking one of the two you mentioned, it'd be the Daiwa combo.

I have the 12' heavy Om with a 6000 emcast 6000 and just bought the 4500 emcast sport ....

You've had good luck with the Daiwa ... stick with it .... haven't heard anything about the OS reels

My current setup I use is a OM 10' MH rated for i think 4-8oz. At work right now so i cant go check. I also have a Daiwa Emcast plus 6000 teamed up with it. Its my first "real" surf setup, ie not some $40-$50 combo from walmart that i used to use. Separately I bought it for $220 at BPS in Arundel Mills. The combo they are advertising is basically the same but with a slightly smaller reel. I would have saved myself a bit of cash if I would have seen the catalog earlier.
