DAAMMMNNN ... Do those tide runners come around MD anymore? I remember tales of the 70's and early 80's where trout were all over the place and some big ones were in the DE bay. Where are these guys fishing? (NY/NJ/CT etc)??

Those are indeed some impressive fish!

Cygnus, I recall that kind of fishing in the '71-'74 timeframe in Tangier Sound. During that period fishing at night for "Sea Trout" from charter boats became very popular. A friend of mine ran such a boat, and I fished with him several times a summer. Most nights the harvest was way excessive. I recall seeing parties of men from the Balto / Wash area take home multiple coolers of the largest size, filled with these fish weighing 8-12 pounds. The "sport" fisherman was as guilty as the commerical netters for overfishing that resource.

I have caught trout that size in Rhode Island's Narragansett Bay and along the south coast of RI where the salt ponds dump through the breachways into Block Island Sound. Called "Squeteague" in New England, they would readily take a squid tipped bucktail, or a Clouser Minnow. I would not be surprised to learn that the fish in the pictures were caught in that area; except the water is probably not warm enough yet this year.

Hopefully the Chesapeake tiderunners will return in numbers for you -- those things may be cyclical.

Caught them that size the last 3 yrs. in Rudee, Lynnhaven and around the bridge tunnels, so far this year NADA. Still looking but the season for them here is about over, I guess they may have passed us by this year.

We still get them big boys here in the Cape May area. Used to be on a regular basis but has fallen off over the years.
