Picking up a new Pop-up Camper this week and want to go on a week vacation next week. Choices so far are, Fernindina Beach, FL (wifes choice) or Myrtle Beach,SC (easy choice because we have been so many times) or Outer Banks, NC (my choice). Not familiar with the camping opportunities around the Outer Banks. Know Myrtle Beach well. Haven't been to FL in about 10 years.
Any suggestions of favorite campgrounds in either would be appreciated. Internet search doesn't always prove to be as good as word of mouth. Need electricity and hot showers. Would like to have a little privacy, used to these mountain wooded campsites. And as always where is the best place for a family fishing vacation, even though its just me and my wife these days, kigs grown.
Where would you go next week?:D

Unless you like setting in traffic and crime ... along with poor fishing .... beach replentishment has the bottom there flat .... OBX is a great choice .... go to the Northern end if you want to loaf the southern end if you want peace and quiet and great fishing ... we stayed at Frisco Woods Campground in Frisco at the southern end of hatteras and really like .... don't know about FL

Real good campground at Fernandina...Ft. Clinch state park. Pier and Surf fishin at your fingertips.
Jekyll Island in Ga has a very nice campground, with all kinds of fishin' just minutes (literally)away.
Come on down to Redneckville...

I second Hatteras and especially Frisco Woods Campground. Frisco has been good to my family and I over almost 20 years now. Good people , quiet area, and close drives to the beach access and Hatteras Inlet is right there too ...even better if you have 4 wheel drive.

Well, all winter long I have been dreaming of the Outer Banks. Reading all the posts over the months has ruined me! So, for now I'll narrow it down to the Buxton area. Might just leave the camper at home and rent a house. Make the week more comfortable.

I just got back from frisco woods and I would give it a good recomendation. I liked the location and I even caught a few fish while I was there so I had a good time.

If you have a canoe or kayak it has a great soundside launch at the back of the campground. Ive caught specks, flounder, puppy drum and blues out behind the place. If they still open for breakfast in the morning and your in no rush to the beach try out The Tides up in Buxton... If you get there early there is little to no wait.

Another question...How far is Avon from all the good fishing? My wife has found a house there she likes if we decide not to take the camper.

Avon is about 15-20 min to the Point, maybe the best stop for a chance at a big one. Stop by Red Drum Tackle or Frank & Frans for info...
