This oughta get the cauldron boiling...
Here's what I want:
12 foot or maybe 12'6"
2 piece, preferably equal.
NO more than 24 reel seat. Prefer 22. 29" Butt to center.
Cork tape below seat, "real cork" above.
Strong enough to cast 5 oz. up to 8 oz ANY way I want to, without fear of rod explosion.
Tough enough I don't have to treat it like a friggin' crystal vase...
Y'all have at it, gimme your best suggestion.
No HDX's, OM Heavys (got two), or Penn Pro Guides (been there, broke it) ...:D

Heard Randy has some new Fusion Magnum blanks coming in that you would be hard pressed to destroy casting . Well maybe !
Only problem is the 9 foot tip with the 4' butt.
Total length 13' but can be cut down. I have one at full length, another at 12'6"
Lamis are closer to being equal, typically 5 and 7' sections.
Don't know if you have tried the Daiwa ballistic- comes in 3 pieces for easy transport, but haven't tried em myself.
I can't think of any "custom" blanks that come in two equal lengths, tho there's gotta be a few.
Rainshadow makes good blanks- here again not two equal sections (that I know of) could be wrong.
As far as indestrucability- I recommend the Wheeler Blanks- but if you haven't tried them yet you might think about the AFAW- I believe Barty was going to get a big beach - so give his the OLD Redneck low tech cast test before ya decide. Ya can thank me later Barty B:p

the Fusion Magnum takes a size 22 reel seat, ya can go with a trigger reel seat if ya choose.
But ya might want to keep in mind the AFAW LIFETIME limited warranty:)

Rob,
I have a rod you may be interested in. I have reservations about parting with it however, but might if you promised I could borrow it back to fish Hatteras on future trips.
Breakaway 1508 two piece/one piece.
-- 12' 3" (5' butt section & 7'3" tip section)
-- The center of reel seat is 28.5"
-- Cork tape above and below reel seat
-- Fuji guides and reel seat
-- Custom built by Dogshark (Earl Brinn's son --Jeff.)
-- Navy Blue and Gold wraps
You would not have to baby this rod -- 8 & bait -- no sweat.

You also might to consider the WRI Nitro. It comes in 2 equal pieces. I believe the rating is 6-10, but I sure it will throw 5oz fine. I have the Nail and everyone tells me it takes at least 8oz to load. I've thrown it with 6oz and it loads just fine. Unless you want more compact then go the the daiwa ballistic 3pc. It will throw the weight you're looking for.
Im with Teo, the Nitro or the 1569 Rainshadow ...13' equal sections.

I went out yesterday after work to try and get a little sharkin in. I put my "modified" 1569 to a serious test. The wind and current were RIPPING. It was taking 10oz just to hold the bait to a slow roll. Total payload at one point was 10oz+a 16oz whiting bait. The rod handled it well,I was supprised That I could hit it as hard as I could, I thought for sure that if the rod was going to fail, this would be the time. Remember, i have 6" off the butt AND 6" off the tip. I was worried about the ferrule breaking under load, but I had it wrapped when it was built to add strength and it seems to have solved that problem.

You might want to try and look at the Seeker 150 British Style surf rod. 12', semi equal pieces and will handle the weight you want and will not break.

The CSU150 is 15' 4-8oz and has a 1.580 butt. I belive you are referring to the CSU120 12' 3-6oz 1.270 butt. Niether are equal sections, the CSU120 has a 8' tip and 4' butt. The CSU150 has a 9' tip and 6' butt. I have owned 2 custom built 120's and liked them very much. I have thrown the 150 and it will throw 8 and SMALL bait (less than 2 oz) I threw an 8oz bank sinker with no rig/bait on the 150 and it handled it, but felt "locked up".
