Ok... I will have to be honest. I have been  for the last couple of hours so bear with me.

I want an 8-9 ft rod that I can use to cast lures for jetty fishing. Most likely IRI. Currently I am using my 10 year old Berkley cherry wood bass fishing rod for casting artificials. I am hoping to catch a fish that will break it. It is just a matter of time. I have only been surf / tidal fishing for about a year now. I want to be able to cast lures from 3/4 to about 2 oz maybe 3? I havent seen any 3 oz lures yet but I probably havnt been looking hard enough. I want something with decent bite detection. I think my price range will be about 50-80 bucks. Suggestions are welcome...

Also I am a huge fan of diawa reels and would like to match one up with the rod. Any suggestions for the reel would also be much appreciated. Same price range.

I don't know how the jettties are up your way but down this way there are no walkways on them, its rockhopping and its very hard on your tackle and your body (especially if you take a drink every now and then). Also on a jetty most of the time it is not nesscary to be able to cast over 100 yds like it is in the surf. So the best jetty rods are those that are hard to break, strong enough to handle those occasional drag-smokers, cheap enough that you are not going to cry the first time it gets a bad scratch on it from the rocks when you slip,,,, IMHO the best to fit the bill, is the ole Ugly Stick .
