I want to put 60 or 80 pd shock leader on to my 15 pd main line and was wondering what kind of knots everyone uses to connect the two. Thanks for any info.

I use this one, works well and has never failed. What ever you use start with a double line.

I use this one and it has never failed me. It is so easy to tie that my 10 year old has done it.

To make it a little easier (and I haven't had this one fail either), once you pass the running line through the half hitch, tie a unit knot aginst the line itself, instead of the double set that is shown on the link.

Do a search and see what you come up with. Hard to beat a spider hitch with a no name. Simple as it gets and very very strong. My new 'go to' will be a bimini with a no name or bimini and double nail. I cant rememeber the name of the gentleman that posted it, but he posted a great way to tie a bimini on here that makes it fool proof and easy as pie. Saw it on SOL as he referenced the P&S link on it.

Same here.
I will got to an albright for the bigger stuff though,If tied and seated properly it is 99.999% impossible for that knot to pull.

When on the beach i tie a surgeons loop to make a double line in the running line and then use the Yukon knot to tie the shockleader on the double line. I am going to experiment more with the spider hitch.
Bimini is out for me because it can't be tied on the beach in a decent amount of time in the dark with the wind blowing and wet hands.
there are a lot of combo's out there, I suggest try and few, find one you like and stick to it and learn to tie it good and then learn how to tie it great!

c.s. said something about having a double line, is that important and if so can you tell me what that is needed for?

Double line = more tensile strength

If I'm using a mono leader with line dimensions you've suggested, then I'll tie Neil's knot as posted by the Sarge. I have not had any failures with this knot.
Now, I also use 65# Power Pro as my shock leader with 14-17# Sufix line. I tie this using a uni to uni knot, and this has been a common practice of mine for the past four years. I've never had this knot fail while casting, and only once that I can recall while fighting a large Blacktip.
There are people who stay away from using braid for leaders for fear of cutting their hands while leadering a fish, and that certainly is a consideration, but I really like the compact knot I can get and, to me, the rig flies better.
When I've needed to leader a ray or bigger Red, I just take my slime towel off my belt and wrap it around the line and pull on the towel.
Hope this helps, good fishing to you,

Tying a Bimini Twist really isn't that hard (http://www.pierandsurf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35917&highlight=bimini+twist) :)
I use the BT to double my running line, and connect it to the shock leader by back to back nail knots or a no-name. I used to use the slim beauty, but after having one fail on a good fish, I went to the nail knot, and it's been fine ever since.
Also, retie the shock leader to running line connection (the bimini and nail) regularly. Because of the shock and stress of the casting and retrieving, the knots are abused a lot. I retie before every trip, and on longer trips, I retie half way through.

In the thread linked to above, pay close attention to the last post.

AK,at 35 or younger,I could tie a bimini as fast as anyone I knew.. Could tie it in the dark, the whole shot.. Always connected with a uni-nail,and it was one strong knot,as is your nail-nail.. At 54,( headed for 55 real quick)with the eyes I got,the spider to no-name is the ticket... :D In braid,if I'm attaching a leader that is well over the diameter of the running line,a bimini is tied.. For some reason braid is much easier to tie a bimini in,bad eyes or not... :D
As far as doubling the line, which was asked by an earlier poster, tie any single line shock connection in mono, and I promise I will break it with bare hands... ;)

do me a favor. You being a knot man, tie up a double surgeons with 17# doubled and 50# leader. Tell me what you find as far as breaking it with your hands. Never did a good scientific test cause I ain't got the proper equipment. Always ended up looping both ends and tuggin. I'll be interested what you find, cause I know any knot I tie, you can do better. wdbrand.
