I was thinking of picking up the OM1000 and light Cape point combo from BP. Has any one seen or used this reel yet? What did you think of it?. My onley concern is that it sounds a little big for a 6 and bait with braid.

I got the 12 ft OMCP 3-6 oz special and put a 560 Slammer on the rod. Works great. The OM 10000 reel is still in the box in my garage; it's a horse at 27 oz. You may want to give Randy a call. He has OM's and he may give you a deal on a better matched combo.

The OM reel is a great reel with a lot of line capacity, (and I've heard its made by Daiwa, hence the resemblence to Emblem reels) but like Mangus said its heavy.
BPS has a combo with a Baitrunner 6500 and the OM rods for $199 that I think is their best surfcasting deal, so I'd ask about that.

I thought the OM 1000 looked more to be an Okuma Axion

Looked at the OM reel a couple days ago at Bass Pro and it is big. I just don't like the reel handles that stick out at a weird angle or the big handle. Also the anti-reverse was not that instant. Too much reel me thinks. I've been having a hard time as well matching a manageable sized spinning reel to a bigger rod... still looking.
I use a stella 8000 on a loomis pbr844s. Works great and balanced.If I need a longer rod I which to loomis 10 1/2 foot surf rod.
