View Full Version : Folding chair help needed

I've tried several folding chairs over the years, but not really satisfied with the cheap stuff. Since my old carcus needs a little more TLC these days, I'm ready for a really good one.
Any recommendations? Besides being really comfy, the only other requirement is it needs to fit in a Fish-N-Mate Senior. So I guess I'm looking for the type that collapses and slides into a carry sack.

I was on the same mission a couple of years ago. I found the answer in the MaxxDaddy Goliath from Kool products. Heavy duty, comfortable and even comes with a removable footrest.
Great chair.

cft... had the same problem. Mine is that the folding chairs are too low in the sand and can't haul my ashes up once settled in. I use a fishing buddy bucket with the padded top. High enough to get up easily and comfortable for a while. salt

Tommy, where'd you get it? Looks like something I need to check out.
SS, know what you mean. Anyone have a neat trick for keeping the chair from sinking down?

I use this one. It's a take-apart and fits in a bag. Made of white oak and heavy canvas.

Digger,
That's the one. I didn't even notice until you mentioned it....lol
The chair is exacly what it is advertised to be. Big, comfortable and strong. The problem I had with most folding chairs was the arms collapsing when I tied to get out of the chair in a hurry (like when the clicker is sceaming on a spiked rod). The Maxx Daddy does not have that problem, each arm is rated to like 250 lbs so you don't have to worry about the chair breaking or bending.
Very nice product.

Yep, that's another requirement. I busted the arm on a demo at local store today.
I think I'm gonna need to take a test drive before plunkin down the dinero. No bass pro within range. Guess I'll head out to Sams or Dicks this weekend.
I'd sure like to plop down in one of those MaxxDaddy Goliaths for a while.

I use the Deluxe Aluminum high-back WearEver Back pack chair
http://www.welcomproducts.com/chairs.html
The chair is built like a tank, Its a little lower to the ground, which is a lot better on my knees, its kind of a trade off, harder to get up but my knees thank me for it, it has an adjustable reclining angle, strong wood arms, plus you wear it like a back pack and has pouch to put your lunch and odds and ends into. I got mine at Wally world. I will never go back to the “chair in a bag” again. With it reclined back and my legs streched out, it is the most comfortable folding chair I have ever sat in, if the wife is out of the house, I will set it up in the den to watch TV:p. You carry it like a back pack so it won't take up any room in your cart.

Hi all, first post. love the site. I'm starting to gear up for surf fishing and was looking at chairs also, came across this one,

there is a canopy available don't know how it would be in any kind of wind.

neither one of these fits in a bag but its thee chair for pregant woman and big ol fisherman.
The green one has a table which I don't need for fishing and then there is a big boy which is rugged and roomy. The woman hog them at the cookouts but they are great on the sand!
good for the over 250 club !

Another echo on the Cabelas Director Chair. Mine is going on 4 years with lots of beach use. ....and the table does get used occassionally to set a drink on. This chair also is easy for big guys to get up from

Been thinking about carrying a small piece of plywood to help with the sinking in the sand bit, not likley worth it if your moving around a lot but if you set up shop in one place for awhile would prolly work, long as the wind isn't howling too bad.

I've given it a little more thought. I'd like to create something that if possible could be shoved in the sack along with the chair. I wonder how big circles of plywood would need to be to keep the chair from sinking. I considered sneaking out my wife's dinner plates, but there's an obvious risk with that.
Another option I'm mentally evaluating is using a square of fabric and sewing pockets on each corner to fit over the feet of the chair. I'm not sure if that would be effective or not, but it would certainly fit in the chair sack.
Would a circle of plywood be better, or a long thin strip? Still looking for options.
