Yep - i use them and love them! Takes a little getting used to at first (lack of tactile feedback in your finger and timing adjustments), but once you get over that it is more comfortable and you can cast farther...and...you don't have to put finger protectors, gloves, tape, etc on and off your finger all the time.

I have one on all my spinning rods! Won't cast my surf rods without them anymore.

Take a look in the "Distance Casting" forum. There is a good thread going there about the cannon.

I have a couple and use them on my heavy OMs and CPs. They will spoil you at 8+. :)
Some rods can be a challenge to install them on though, like the CPs. I wrapped the rod first where it goes with some generic rod wrap, and then secured the BC with wire ties.
IMHO, they are great for tossing heavy lead but just get in the way with lighter lead or lures.

I never warmed up to them and went back to tapping my fingers, because I like to be in touch the line. From what I have seen and heard they will increase your casting distance. Give it a try.

I always use a mono shock so I've never tried it with braid. I have heard that others wrap the post 3 or 4 times when using braid and it works well.

I've got one on my 12' OM and it definitely helps out my distance because I've got the line secured and not on a taped finger! I can lay a little more force into my cast and I can get another 20-30 yards out of my cast. I did not see alot of difference in my timing between using my finger and the cannon - just more distance.

Why do you wrap the rod first with generic rod wrap?

Why do you wrap the rod first with generic rod wrap?Because the Cape Points are bare rod where you need to secure the cannon. It's hard to keep it from moving on you if you don't put something down first.
I did not see alot of difference in my timing between using my finger and the cannon - just more distance. First few times I tossed with the cannon, I threw the lead straight up. After I got the timing down, it wasn't a problem. My fishing buddies appreciated me getting the timing down. :D ;)

They take a bit of practice, but the results are worth the effort.

their best feature is they save you tightening and loosening the drag after each cast.just set it and forget it!
