As I plan to spend Independence Day surf fishing at OI, I just sent my message opposing the beach closures to the link in the article. I just can't imagine not being able to fish and play on those beaches. It is a family tradition. My mother and father starting taking us camping in Hatteras about 35 years ago.
Thanks for the link.

Are they trying to close the beaches to fishing or just ORV traffic?

If you came down to our beaches and looked at the markings on these closers, they are specifically marked for no pedestrian use as well as ORV's... Many of the dunes to access on foot are closed in the same manner..
Believe me Still Serchin,it's not about birds it's about access and special intrest.. They want wintering closers on the best beaches to fish in Hatteras Island from July-May... These closures INCLUDE pedestrian usage..
