Hi all
I'm new to this forum and site. I fish salt a lot, primarily at Island Beach in Jersey and mostly flyfish. I was using my spinning rod a month ago casting to blues a ways out and the fellow next to me was reaching way out-much further than I-with an Ambassadeur reel (don't know the model and didn't know they made so many)and a 9 foot casting rod and getting a fish on every cast. I said to myself- I don't have enough gear- I've got to get a baitcaster and a 9 foot rod for times like this. I've been looking at the abu record 60 hc or the c5 mag and a 9 foot salmon or steelhead rod to throw 1 1/2 to 2 ounce plugs or spoons- Any comments? Would appreciate them.
Thanks for letting me be here.
Mike

Welcome to the site and hope we can always help,,,, now on to this giant can of worms you just opened

Fishing reels and rods will bring all the birds out to say which one is better and how much further it will cast than every other rod and reel and granted there are many great set-ups and yes I love my Abu bait casters now saying that I just picked up a Shimano Stradic to go on my new Wheeler 1023 which is a 10' raited for 2-3 ozs and have a feeln this set up will launch them lures out of sight. Tica makes a good rod in the lower end price range all the way to customs.

Bait casters work well and some say spinners are easier to throw so now all ya got to do is pick.

Good luck and the guys will give ya tons of good info.

Welcome aboard. There are tons of rods and reel to choose from look around at the tackle shops and retail stores. Play with the gear and see what others are using then make a choice that fits your needs.

Also ask a lot of questions.
