What do you guys think about Cabelas shipping charges? I think its wack. Shipping charges based on total purchase price seems archaic to me...

I don't like it either - should be based on weight/size or flat fee IMO

I think ALL online stores should build the shipping costs into the price of the item as listed.

I hate those stores where you add everything to your cart and go to check out and realize shipping doubles the cost of your order and its something that can be shipped a 2 dollar padded envelope such as fish hooks and swivels.

I agree. I think shipping should be included in the price of the item, if possible. I like online stores like digitaldagger.com that list reel prices that include shipping.

cabelas way of charging shipping is shear greed. You order like four packs of premium fishing hooks, they charge you like 7 bucks for shipping.

I agree also. It does get costly.

It gets costly, but only to a certain point (usually like around $100ish). After that point is reached, then it becomes substantially cheaper relative to the purchase price of the items. While I don't particularly like the idea that buying a pack of hooks would cost more in shipping than the hooks themselves, but I try to mitigate that by having a lot of tackle on hand, refill my tackle boxex/bags from the stock, and replenish when the stock is running low. :D

'Course, that could be the reason why my apartment resembles a tackle shop with a couch... :p  :D

I have been ordering supplies from mudhole lately, and try to order everything in one shipment if possible. Standard shipping prices are around 10 to 15.00 bucks, depending on size and price. I think the exboritant charge for shipping a couple of guides or small items is nothing more than a sales tactic to get you to spend more money so that you get your "monies worth" out of the shipping charges.

Shipping cost seems high to me at times too, but have you thought about what you are saving by not paying any sales tax? Kinda evens out...

Here again depends on the size of the order. I just checked the shipping charge for a $2.95 spool of thread- $4.99. The tax would only amount to a small fraction of that. And the tax savings is only valid on out of state or "no sales tax" state purchases.

Still I look at it this way- at the price of gas even if stuff was available locally, I'd pay more in gas to make a round trip than the shipping charges.
