whats the best rod and reel

for pier fishing, i live in california. ive been fishing for years but want to upgrade to something that allows me to catch bigger fish

I just got a loomis Pro Blue rod (PBR844S) and put a Stella 8000 on it. Loaded the reel with 30lbs. Power Pro and 50 lbs fulrocarbon leader. WOW!:D

JP is right, there's never one "do-it-all" rod.

Although the 5'6" penn long beach rod and 9m reel with 20 lb line that I found in my grandpa's attic comes pretty close ;)
