JUST GO AWAY !!!!
It's not just that he did "ROIDS" it is also his attitude, he is the most ignorant, self centered, person I have ever seen. everything that Cal Ripken is and stands for he is just the opposite. In my mind Hank Aaron has the record and will until someone else (probably A-Rod) breaks it.

Bonds record will be broken with in ten years but it takes a lot of skill to do what he has done. Roids or not he can hit some hrs...
Roids did help him get through the injuries but not swing the bat to make contact.
Personality wise.... Most professional players in any sport suck..

the smell of the grass, and the daytime heat giving way to nights cool relief. The evening sky surrounded by the stadium lights. The cheers and jeers of the crowd. The crack of bat meeting ball . The shouts of beer. popcorn. hotdogs. my number one little buddy sitting next to me with glove at the ready, it would take a lot for me not to love and appreciate baseball and all those who make it possible:)

The roids issue aside I grew up watching and cheering for Hammerin' Hank even though I was an Orioles fan cheering for Brook Robinson and the like. I was young and at that time had no idea of the racial tension Hank was dealing with ... I was naive to it all ... it is great to be a kid isn't it? As I grew up and realized what that man went through during his hunt for the record I was even more impressed with him. He has always remained in my eyes a gentleman and a competitor.
Compare that to Barry Bonds Jr and I just cannot get excited about him breaking the record. I know I do not know him personally but from all the reports I have heard and read ( and I am talking up to 100 ) he is just not my type of guy. He may be great to his family but I do like like the pimadonna attitude he exudes.
So based on the information and feelings I have with what I have seen, read, and heard I am sad that a class act has been replaced in the record books by someone with a lot less class (In my opinion).

Ummm... I humbly disagree. ;)
how do you explain his stats? the man hit 30 to 40 hrs until 2001, when he hit 73. Year before he hit 49 and the year before 37. How do you explain the significant jump in hrs? flex seed oil? and I don't think its just because he stayed healthy with roids.
In the court of public opinion he is guilty. If the federal grand jury won't charge him, surely history will charge him and find him guilty.
If it smells like poo and looks like poo, do you have to actually touch it and taste it to know it is? There are books and testimonies that says Barry Bonds took steroids. One book published by two journalist is pretty detailed. And these journalist are very creditable.
It sure stink like poo... I hope Griffey Jr. or ARod breaks his record in next 10 years.

If A-Rod stays healthy, he'll do it in about 6 or 7 years. I don't like him much either, and that's not just because he's a Yankee.

I am just sick and tired of picking up the sports page and seeing more indictments, pleadings, arrests, steriods etc than box scores.
If he was/is using, time will tell. No one who has used those things has escaped the after effects.

While I'm not a fan of baseball I have mixed feelings here. Today steroids or enhancing suppliments or what ever you call it are a regular thing in form or another today in pro sports. Back in the day records were broke on sheer talent. Now a days, (in my opinion) it boils down to MONEY. If I am better han this guy, and break his records I'll make more money. Does kinda put a taint on things.

Because the stuff that is illegal now wasn't 5 to 10 years ago when this all blew up. And most of those guys were taking it. Wouldn't you?? Think $$$$$$$$$$ Baseball was in a rut and needed a way to get the fans back. *BINGO*
I know because I took that crap(andro/norandro, testosterone.. all that) And guess what I ordered that stuff through the web from GNC and it came to my military box.
And it worked, worked wonders as far as building strength quickly.
In fact in Bosnia/Kosovo just about everyone I knew was taking some type of performance enhancing drug.........And it was legal!!!!!!!
So my thoughts are sure he took some stuff, as did just about everyone else, but at the time it was not illegal, so frankly what did he do wrong?
It's just my opinion on the whole issue, I am getting tired of hearing about it really. If you believe that only muscle head home run hitters were doing it then you should read up on Rafael Palmeiro. LOL he totally proves my point.

Maybe there's a reason Bud Selig didn't want to attand when Bonds hit the record breaker, just maybe he knows something that he won't or can't talk about just yet, remember the grand jury is still investigating Bonds.
And Bonds has admitted taking streoids but in a round about way when he said that he never knowingly took them, now everybody knows these guys are fully aware of everything and the amount of everything that goes into thier body.
If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck IT'S A DUCK!!!!!!!

I'm guessing that most of the people pissing on Bonds were standing and cheering during the summer of '98 when McGuire and Sosa were having their battle. If Bonds used them, so what. You think that's the only record in sports that isn't held by someone that used some sort of performance enhancer?
Besides that, we can't guarantee the old timers were "clean". There's evidence of professional cyclists using all the way back to the '30's, so it was out there.
Anytime you pay someone huge amounts of dollars, with big expectations they're going to look for the competitive edge.

Steriods aside, his attitude sucks.
But Pete Rose said it best, people can perfect their swing and connect with the ball, take steriods and put it over the fence, but to connect with the ball consistantly and break my record, it takes skill.

by the way in my earlier post i said mcgregor when i meant mcgwire. by the way how many hall of fame pitchers only used unaltered balls. quite a few have admitted to using enhancements like vaseline, pine tar etc. ;)

I do not care for him personally but as a baseball player he is one of the best ever period......
The thng I hate about all the bonds bashing is the fact that if he did take roids (and we all know he probably did) it was not against the rules of baseball at the time. Since they have banned them in baseball he has been tested many times and has been clean every time.
Further, after the owners canciled the world series due to the strike they wanted a way to win the fans back so whet happened. Two of the biggest juicers McGuire and Sosa had a couple years of great homerun hitting with mcguire breaking the record hell sosa also eclisped the imfamous 61. What did the owners, the commissioner and the fans do when macguire broke the record. Hell they cheered. They even stopped the game and gave him a fully restored 62 T-Bird. Everyone knew he was juiced. Oh but it was good for baseball right....it brought the fans back it made the owners money so everything was OK.
Then bonds shatters the record, roids are banned , the balko case gets national attention....now all of a sudden Bonds is a criminal, baseball does not want to honor him , hank arron the self centered punk wont even acknowledge bonds. I am glad he broke the record in his home park. At least his fans cheered him on. Willy Mays is a class act for standing with Bonds. Bud Selig is a weenie he should be ashamed of himself and the owners should be as well.
I do not repeat do not like Bonds I think he is a self centered azzhole....but he broke the record and should be congratulated and honered as the greatest homerun hitter in history bar none. Roids or not he still has to hit the ball. I think if he was not walked as many times as he was he may have hit 900.
I have ranted long enough he will only have the record about 8 more years then it will be A-rods. They will probably dig some dirt up on him pretty soon LOL

Isn't steroids illegal by law? just wondering...

Ok no more gatorade, protein, shakes, proper diets , etc.
Matter of fact it ought to be illegal to work out or train in any way, shape, or form, since doing so will "enhance" your performance.
Get by on the natural talents you have and no fair working to improve them.

for the record, he is an arrogant pr!ck with a plain bad character as a person. ever read some of the transcripts of his interviews? or see his interviews on ESPN? what an arrogant, self centered pr!ck:mad: .
after that said, for hitting those many homeruns? --you gotta give him some acknowledgment for that.
but he is no michael jordan of his sport.

You are right on the mark JP! I was quite surprised and quite dismayed at the response he got from the San Diego fans. I wish he'd done it in NY. They know how to boo. The sad part is that he's probably going to make it into the hall. I've saw a program last year, probably ESPN, the guys in the Hall don't want him in. The Sports writers on the other hand say he was on a trajectory to achieve Hall #'s before he took steroids (he's already admited to taking "the cream and clear" So though it hasn't been proven in a court of law (yet) you'd have to be lying to yourself or...to say he's innocent.
The won't vote McGuire in, why bonds? Here's where I stir the pot and probably alienate a few people, but I am not running for political office so...Why Bonds? The don't want to be accused of racism; so he gets a free pass. I am black and don't have a problem saying that. No McGuire, no Bonds and anyone else who's done it. Rafael Palmiero.
He probably would have had Hall #'s if he'd stayed clean anyway. It's a knock to Aaron, Mays, Seaver, Koufax, everyone who DID IT THE RIGHT WAY, CLEAN. Here we have Aaron, a man who worked hard for 20+ years and played the game with HONOR and INTEGRITY and he has his record broken by a CHEATER. Is that what you want your SONS to grow up respecting (Cheating)? For me the Record Holder is Aaron, until someone else (A-Rod) breaks it (755).
Like OJ, he's convinced himself his record is not tainted; and like OJ WE all know better.

On a second note, Roger Clemens was clean, as was Nolan Ryan, two of the greatest pitchers to ever step on the mound.

Still with all this hubbub Babe Ruth was the greatest home run hitter of all time. Remember the 1st seven years he pitched, that is what 25% of the regular players opportunities. say 4 years with 20more Hr each and they all would still be chasing still.

yes we do -- and therein lies the "rub" as it were -- because innocent until proven guilty presupposes there is something to be proven or disproven -- there has to be a wrong or a right to prove -- & again i suggest that i am willing to consider that he didn't if you are willing to consider that he did -- that is what would make us "fair jurors" in a trial -- an open mind
