Need to cast this reel.
It has the chrome spool and would like to get a lighter spool for it. Do they make one. Are all senator spools for the 4/0 interchangeable? I know they make some narrow spools but would like to keep the capacity.
Anyone have any info on making this a better casting reel? I am using it for sharking and just need about 70yds out of it.

Vic,

The 4/0 can be cast just fine, with the brass spool, and no mags. The brass spool will hold slightly more line than the aluminum one.

I'm not saying that it's gonna be FUN, but it's do-able. Start with the knob on the left side as tight as you can get it with your fingers, and TAKE IT EASY. A big, arc-ing, slow-motion, lob with at least an 8 oz. will do the trick.

Here's where you need that OM Heavy, the original with the Fuji 26 screw down reel seat.

Another good rod would be the Daiwa 11'3" XH, junior high vaulting pole. :D

With the OM, and my old, stock 4/0 full of 40# Big Game, I can throw a 13 oz total payload to the 100 yd mark.

Just keep the swing SLOW and make sure the rod loads deep. With this combo, I use a kind of "sidearm" off the ground, with good results...

Barty's gonna tell you to use a glove, or one of those "thumb comdom" thingies he totes around, but he doesn't like to mess up his manicure...:p :p :D

RR is right. The big spool will take care of you because it spins at slower rpms than small reels. You can mag them also just like people do to their jigmasters.
