...This year's Perseid meteor shower peaks Sunday night 8/12 into Monday morning 8/13. It might produce 50 to 100 swift, bright meteors per hour. They appear to radiate from the constellation Perseus in the NW sky but can be seen over the entire sky. No special equipment is needed--just your two eyes. Find a dark location (the farther from city lights the better), lie back, and look up.You may see meteors after dark Sunday night, but they will be best beginning around 12:30AMMonday morning. The Perseids are debris from Comet Swift-Tuttle, whose orbit we cross each August. When they burn up in Earth's atmosphere they are about 60 miles high, traveling at about 37 miles/second.
Hopefully we'll have clear skies.
Happy looking!
