I've got a couple of rods that I can use. I'm looking for a recommendation which one may be the best combination. I have a Penn 113 and a Penn 114. The rods I have available to use are:

6' Bill fisher 50- 100 lbs.
5 1/2 foot Penn Mariner Stand up 20-50 lbs.
7' Shimano Tallus 25 -40

I'd stick the 113 on the tallus if that's what i had to choose from.

I use a 4/0 high sp. wide spool w/ 40lb Big Game and a 75' 100lb topshot. Mounted on a 6' Penn stand up rod

Over here on the Gulf, people use a Penn 704z with 250 yds or more of #15-20 mono. Of course, they're pitching baits to the kings, not setting out rigs.

I get by with a 6'6 20-50lb penn powerstick & Penn 25GLS with 20lb mono... caught plenty of kings on it....

Got ass for putting the pressure on if need be, & a light, flexible tip for preventing them lil trebles from tearing out a mackerals face....

That is what is needed for kings.

do you think the 5 1/2 foot rod too short?

How does the Penn Graph Lite lever drag compare to a Shimano TLD? I see a ton of folks using the TLD's.

It's personal preference on the reels. You'll hear constant debates on the Penn/Shimano batttle. My preference? Shimano. ;)
