Except the fact that the $30 wally world special isn't worth the mono and lead that makes it up while the Calusa is a fantastic net.

no doubt its a great net i love mine, but still if your willing to buy a net that expensive and dont know how to throw one then maybe your missing a few bolts... :D i'd at least waste some money on a cheap one so you learn how to throw without fear of getting it snagged or something terrible like that... hate to have to swim with a knife in my teeth to retreive that calusa. but god knows i wouldn't cut it free, the knife is to fight off the sharks

I'd rather buy the one I want (need) and get the video than to buy one for $30 and turn around and spend another $100 later. Just watch where you are throwing it and you shouldn't get hung up on anything, right?

thats how one would think it would work... knowing me i could get snagged on a deserted sandbar though... above the water

Not particularly easy for me to toss like a pro, but does seem to get the job done. I'd like to get a better one but other tackle keeps jumping in the cart first. :D

they actually work pretty well.

i fish the inlet most of the time thhis time of year. i leave my bait trap on friday evenings and take them out around 4a.m. i get an average of 15-20 baitfish. i also bring my castnet just in case my trap dint catch any.

I end up tossing a net many places where I am not sure of what is down there. Meaning I go to new fishing places and get bait where I have never been. I pack the 6' $19.99 special and it tosses juuuust fine when I can't see bottom. ;) Looking down from a bridge at a snagged $100 net... well, that'd make me mighty sad. Looking down at the beater that has been patched more than once.... I don't feel quite as bad giving it a couple hard tugs trying to get it free. Ever hear a $100 net rip apart? Neither have I!! :D

Now, I do have a nice net, cost a buck-an-a-half or so as I recall. There really is a difference is tossability. But, I find I rarely use it as it would break my heart (and the bank) to have anything happen to it. Every couple years I retire (or less depending) a net and get another. Usually around the time they go on sale, go figure.

Rhay they're not that expensive either. The big one with the four entrances was only about $55. Sounds like they are best for Jetty's and bridges, piers, things like that. And if you've got the time to let it fill up. Probably best for someone who has waterfront property.

Woodchuck - I hear you! The thought of losing or snagging a $100 castnet would be sickening. And I will be fishing different places all along Floridas East & Gulf Coast. I am going to use the trick Jettypark does and that's make a chum ball and find boat launches to cast at. That should be pretty snag free. So I guess I'll need two the walmart cheapie for new places and the $100 for places I know.

i dont have a waterfron property. i put my bait trap in a public place. you just learn how to look for it or hide it.

you set it down at night. have a floater to identify the spot. the floater should be below the water level at least 1- 2 feet so no one can see it and steal it.
