Melvin's put together a pretty good website. On the left column, scroll down till you see "Making Grip Sinkers."

There's other useful info, like some rig tying.

That is what ya get for trying to do a website on the cheap. I bet hosting is expensive in Singapore!

We used to take a bomb mold, drill two holes perpendicular to each other about two thirds they way down. Then before pouring, put heavy weight piano wire(sprung wire I think they called it) into the holes. When the lead is set, take 'em out and bend the wire to the desired shape. Then get some hard, ribbed garden hose of a slightly smaller than the diameter of the weight and heat it up and push it down about halfway and let it set up hard. The garden hose will hold the spikes you have made in the grooves and the spikes will pop out when you pull the tackle in.
Just like breakaways.
Didn't need no stinking hoster for that :)

Sorry Neil, don't want to lose you sales, but thats what we used to do in Suffolk, when I were a lad.

That'll work as well, just doesn't allow for the breakaway effect. Don't think I'd fancy having to reel that in after casting a fair way though. Try the ribbed garden hose and wires though the mold jobby. You only have to drill the holes once and hose pipe is easy to cut, heat and fit. I 'spect that's quite a job, whipping all those wieghts...Thanks for the piccy's

When I wus a living down in Texas not far from the gulf...I fished with a guy who showed me how to make some good surf sinkers. He had an open top mold he made with some really big drill bits, and just sat some bent and twisted copper wire in as the eyelet, and spikes. I forget what diameter wire worked best 12 or 14 guage...but when u reeled it in the copper would fold back just like on a sputnik.

One long piece of copper twisted for the eyelet and two spikes, then a shorter piece set in seperately for two more spikes opposite the first two.
