I think I mentioned it before but one of the reasons I like this knot is that if you tie it wrong or it slips wrong, it should fail in your hands....
The other thing is that we tie a knot similar to this in the fire service called a becket bend. Its based on tiend together ropes of two different sizes....just like the line. And because there are no kinks in the running line, it will hold a higher percentage of strength...but...To each his own.
