Dick's Sporting Goods has a metal ringed net (about 32" in diameter). When I got mine, it was $15, but I recently saw it get marked down to $8

good nets are stainless tubeing or round stock ss. but they will last a lifetime,a 40in ring, around $85 to start and you will need to tie it up yourself. we down here on the outerbanks mostly have our own incase the pier keeps theirs in the pierhouse. cheap nets are ok but dont last.

I got mine, 44" on sale from Strike Zone (awesome FL b&t) for $26. It's all stainless metal and thick braided nylon cording/mesh with a light rubber coating spray to reduce hooking the net. I love my pier net, helps get the fish on the boards.

Be aware that there is a limit to a net diameter (in FLA), of 96 inches. Often a dealer will sell you none knowing that it is illegal. This equates to something like 30". Just be aware of it when the man comes by.
BTW, a lot of piers provide a pier net. C2

My fingers got ahead of my mind. The FLA law specifies a CIRCUMFERENCE limit of 96 inches. Sorry! That would be a heckuva big net 96 inches wide!
A 96 inch circumference converts to a diameter of about 30 inches. C2

What is the rule that specifies pier net size? I been using a 40" net for years and plenty of FWC officers have walked right past it and never said anything about it.

Don't forget to change the rope that comes with the $15 dick's pier net...its thin and can break easily.

I never knew that about the pier nets. Hmmm, I don't know why they would have a problem with that, especially since it helps on the conservation aspect. I'd rather get a ticket for the net than needlessly hurt fish I have to release.

It's there:
Nets
The following types of nets may be used for recreational purposes in Florida waters:
-- Bully nets (for lobster only) no greater than 3 feet in diameter.
-- Frame nets and push nets (for shrimp only) no greater than 16 feet in perimeter.
-- Hand held landing or dip nets no greater than 96 inches in perimeter.
All it takes ias a game warden with a bad hair day and it'll cost you. It is usually unenforced (or they don't know their own regs) C2

It looks like since it says hand held nets a pier net wouldnt fit into this catagory since it is lowered down on a rope. The point could be argured anyway although I know in the end it is the officers interpretation that counts.
