the new saltiga surf and jetty has onlu 4 guides. rated 3-6 but felt more like 1-4. haven't casted it yet. will go plugging tomorrow and will let you guys know.

the rod felt so heavy for an 11ft'er. and then i remember the counter balance weight on the butt.

without the weights. the rod weights only a whopping 12.8 OUNCES.

the finla box, is the newly release shimano elf JDM. the size is the same size as the 4000 stradic FI. all metal body and spool. waterproof drag. only drawback is the 10# max drag.

Nice stuff bro.. I see that u are into japanese stuff.. mostly shimano and daiwa.. Im their fan too!!
Is ur elf made in Japan? Coz back in South East Asia, the elf is an entry level model which is made in Malaysia.. Shimano has a factory there and makes some level entry models for the market namely.. the sienna, alivio, elf etc...

Can't wait to hear your report on that rod. I am interested to know how it handles with just the four guides.

went out this morning to try it, 3-5 ft waves, wind around 15 mph.
Was getting only around 60-70 yards. maybe because of the wind, and my timing was off. Also, I haven't really put some power into the cast- overhand cast, just getting the feel of the rod. (excuses :))

I threw a 2.75Ounces F14. the rod was easy to load. it has a softer tip compared to the LDX (bear in mind, i have an 11ft'er). it also feels really light. I have a lamiglas surf king at the same length 11ft'er- It's nothing compared to this rod. It's just so easy to load, no effort at all. I have another rod of the same length- tsunami airwave, they seems to weight the same but the airwave is more noodly than the saltiga surf. It has more backbone, it is definetly stronger than teh airwave or the surf king of the same length.

compared to the LDX- the saltiga is lighter (again 11ft'er vs. 13ft'er), and EASIER to load. i think they can achieve the same distance, give or take 20 yards to the LDX.
