Probabaly an explosive topic, but we'll see:

1. What is your political affiliation and why?
2. Is it same as your parents?
3. What area of the country were you raised?

As for me Republican for the conservative principles. My parents and almost the entire family (aunts, uncles, cousins) are democracts.
Was raised in the north east (NY). Which is a very democractic city, though the rural area's of the state lean a little republican.

Prime example of why I am not democratic - the Mets are building their own ballpark with their own money. The only thing they asked of the city was to allow them to issue municipal bonds. At the city hearing the politicans asked what are you gonna do for the city??? I was like SAY WHAT? They already support local area sports for kids and they are building the statium without a penny of government money. Go Fred in '08!

I'm Conservative Republican by choice. I cannot explain why in a few sentences.
My parents are Democrats.
I was raised in Hawaii.

Let's see if we can do this like adults.

1. What is your political affiliation and why?
Registered Democrat, will vote Republican, Independent, whatever, just depends on the candidate. I vote as I see the person, not the party or the mudslinging or scare tactics.

2. Is it same as your parents?
My mother is a hardcore, rightwing Republican. My dad votes Republican most of the time, but can be reasoned with.
3. What area of the country were you raised?
Shenandoah Valley. Bible Belt of Virginia.

This will work as long as no one attacks anyone else for their views. Gotta respect people views even if you don't agree.

I am registered Democrat but am drifting to the right with each passing year. I am definitely a centrist and will likely change to republican before too long.

The rest of my family are all conservative republicans.

I was raised in Connecticut.

I think Abortion is morally wrong but I think people should have some rights to decide what to do. I think we should not use illegal drugs, but also don't think some (Mary Jane) should be illegal. I think marriage should be defined as between a man and a woman. I think we need a better healthcare system in this country with less government involvement. I think we should help those who are in need but should do so by helping equip them to fend for themselves not by lifelong handouts.

I haven't decided who to vote for 2008. Media hasn't told me who the front runner is yet.

haahaa. just kidding. sometimes I feel like media actually decides who the president is going to be in this country.

I'm in line with HuskyMD, centrally aligned and I like different aspect of both parties, but not the extreme versions of either. I am a registered republican and most of my family (including my parents) are republicans (a few lonely dems). I am from southeast NC, and most of my family resides in NC.

Well then good luck finding a candidate you actually want to vote for! I don't like any of them.

As a young man I was staunchly conservative. As I aged (or matured) I saw things happening in our govt. I wasn't totally cool with, but stayed conservative. Due to my religious beliefs, I am still conservative theologically, but when I read about helping those in need, widows, sick, etc., I haven't seen that from the party known as the more conservative. So I'd say I'm a compassionate conservative, with fewer and fewer options? I'd like to see Bill Richardson get the Democratic nomination. IMO, he's the lesser of the liberal evils, Has foriegn policy experience, and more compassionate than any current Republicans I've seen in the mix. Not to start a fight, but I'd vote for him.

All politicians are crooks...

My beliefs are in Family, Friends, Fishin', and workin' for a living.

Do anything to jeopardize these things, and I'm liable to shoot you with one of my guns.

If you are able bodied, and won't work, then you shouldn't eat.

I respect your right to worship or make love to anything you want. But don't drag me into it, or expect me to pay the bills.

Don't expect me to approve, if you are some kind of sicko...

I will NOT learn another language. If you wanna talk to me, it'll be in English.

Color of skin means nothing to me, how you act means everything.

Medical care costs too much, unless you're very rich, or dirt poor.

I won't change my views, to be accepted, gain someone else's approval, or be fashionable.

Don't agree with me? That's your right.

It's my right not to give a damn.

I was raised in the Deep South, by parents that thought the same way.

My history is Carter once, Reagan twice, Bush 1, Clinton twice, Gore, and Kerry.

I've also never voted for anyone for president.

The older I get, the more I see, the more I learn, the more liberal/progressive I get.

I am a conservative.

I believe that the Gov't and its Court system should get back to regulating in accordance with the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

But, considering that 95% of the american people have no idea what is written on those documents, its no wonder the Gov't gets away with what it does.

If people would turn off thier reality TV shows for a couple nights and REALLY study what is in those documents, they might have a clue when they make a decision about certain politicians and political parties.

I do not discuss politics with people in public, because most of the time, I just want to slap the shit out of them.

Don't know that all politicians are crooks, but there are some that if they are not, they missed a good chance. I was born and raised in the Northeast, but have lived South of the Mason Dixon Line for over 25 years. Have lived in Florida for most of it and consider myself a Southerner and I don't care how you do things up North. I'm a registered Republican, but vote as I see fit. For the most part though, I agree with all that RR wrote and as a Republican I am a staunch supporter of the military, but I am against big government. The biggest problem with the other party is;
1. They will buy you a fish so you won't go hungry.
2. They will teach you to fish so you can feed yourself.
3. They do not want you to own the pond.

I know two languages and use English. Every single one of my family members were brought here legally and they don't want americans to conform to their native tounge.

I do believe though that medical care should fall on family and church. Not the responsibility of the goverment.

partisan politics is ridiculous, and these days it's too heavy. I'm center left, but have voted both sides of teh party based on what canidates think (or say they think). They're all liars and grafters so I'm pretty sure that's the reason I stay registered independent and am willing to let either side screw me every election cycle.

My rents were hardcore fiscal conservatives, but more liberal socially in some areas. I grew up in the bible belt and socialist northern Europe. i think spending half my younger life in both these places ensured I'll never tilt full right or full left. I've seen how messed up both hardcore sides are. Now I'm off to forget politics the best way, fish... so off to Ponce Inlet tomorrow.

Democrat (rare breed on fishing boards) because I like to fish and the most threatening thing to the fish I pursue these days is pollution IMO. I am somewhere in the middle really and in local elections have voted republican a few times based on area specific issues. I also voted for Perot (my guy didn't have a chance in VA so I wanted to undercut the other guy). FYI, I'd vote republican if the candidate said they would enforce international fishing laws...I'd have no problem if we confiscated finning boats, tuna poachers etc.,not sure a democrat would do that but it would be just like a republican to make this a "hot button issue"...I'm a sucker for those.

Born and raised in VA, folks are democrats as they grew up and participated in the civil rights movement.

Neither party is perfect and extremists on both sides really bug me. Those who blindly vote for their party regardless of the issues are the blind sheep. Those who don't vote at all are worse.

VICIII -- what do you guys talk about at lunch?;):p
it is a myth that has existed for years that blood is blue til it is exposed to oxygen.
blood in the circulatory system is constantly oxygenated (if you are breathing)
blood is darker red in the veins than in the arteries, but it is red nonetheless.
don't know where that blue blood myth developed, also don't don't where the term "Blue Blood" as used to refer to superior ancestry developed....so we all bleed red -- altho there is some kinda weird condition that causes green blood -- eww! "Predator" stuff!:--|

That is what I argued... Blood is red not blue.... Thanks for the info.

1. What is your political affiliation and why?

I am a conservative with tendencies toward libertarianism. I believe in rugged individualism and small efficient government. I Vote republican mainly because it is closer to what I believe than the democrats of late but I still look at the person and try to decide party affiliation aside.

I believe the founding fathers would be ashamed of what we have turned into.

2. Is it same as your parents?

No. My mom hated Reagan. My dad passed away when I was 5 so I have no clue what he was.

3. What area of the country were you raised?

Born and raised in PG county. I saw it go downhill and become crime ridden. It was not always like that.

When I see Cthulhu all I can think about is if he'll be good as bait...

I'm an indenpendant who leans towards conservativism. I see no reason for the Government to butt it's nose in our daily lives, nor do I think it's the job of the government to take care of our every needs. But that's just my opinion.

Glad to see the adults came out of the woodwork on this topic; no reason for it to turn into a flamefest, and it hasn't <G>. We all have the right to our own opinions, others may not agree with them but it's good everyone here is respecting them.

1. I am a tweener I guess. LOL Like most said I like different parts of both parties.

2. My parents pretty much feel the same way but lean more Republican. As I do, they try to vote for the lesser evil.

3. Funny thing is that I originally grew up in NY and as stated we were a Democratic family but after we moved to FL 18 years ago things sort of morphed into what they are now.

I wouldn't wish the presidents job on my worst enemy. The way politics are now there is almost no way to make the whole happy.

Now being in Germany for the past 3+ years I have seen how a government run medical program has helped the people. Do I think this will work in the US? Prob not as it would have amplifications into other government issues. But when I see and hear about people dying needlessly it makes me wonder. Are we taking care of our own?? Or keeping our nose high to the ceiling as we walk on by??

It is painfully obvious that we have all we can do to get along among ourselves, without trying to deal with what people did in the past. Whole nations have been torn apart over whose did what to whom and who was right or whose was wrong.....
