The shimano stradic is a hands down favorite for most throwing metal. The 4000 is all you really need. You might be able to find one of these on sale for under 100. If not i have a penn 4400ss that i use but for the line quantity you are looking for i would go with the 4500. Some dont like the penn b/c the newer ones are made in china but i have had no problems with these reels as i own 6 of them. Great reels for me and very sturdy, good drag and reel easy to clean if they get gunk in them.

I'm a Shimano fan, but for under $100 Okuma is worth to checkout.

shimano spheros, baitrunner 3500 or the daiwa b&g.
these reels are proven to be work horses. or you might try and look at the shimano saros, don't own one, but they seem to be nicely built for the price.

Stradic FH under $100 is a bargain, has been around awhile and proven to be work horse. Get one while it’s still around

Another vote for the stradic, but I would suggest the 5000 if you can find one. It's the exact same frame as the 4000 w/ a different spool. They claim it's an ounce or 2 lighter, and the larger spool diameter makes the retrieve rate a little faster (which is nice for those spaniards).

big b 78 -- just a clarification here - love my stradic 5000 too - it would be my first choice - but don't know if you can find one under $100 - that is why i suggested the emcast & the B&G

if you want a reel under 100.00, i like the Shimano Symetre. it is listed as a fresh water reel. but is fine to use in salt(anti rust berrings). the line capasity is a little less than what you wanted(unless you use braid) and its 79.00 bucks.

Many that use plugs up north like the 704Z packed with grease for waterproofing. its a tank and should be had for under $100 used.

imVho, there is nothing like a revolving spool reel by Penn or Garcia/Ambassador. (while i have some spinning rigs, they are for guests.)

MY choice for the heavier pier/surf (as i've said numerous times here) is the "Penn Leveline 350", which will cast about as far as any reel & does do "sort of" a leveling of the line as you fight a BIG fish in the water.

for light stuff (specs, for example)with my 8' popping rod, it's the Ambassordor 7000 or larger.

find those on craigslist.com and/or on ebay.com for about 30.oo.

GOOD LUCK on the water,ts

IMHO get the Stradic. I have always been disappointed when I let money keep me from making that leap from the just average gear to the good, solid, dependable stuff.
I think fishing, not fixing.

Another vote for the stradic! I have the 5000FH!!! The reason you can find them under $100 is that they changed the model (just like they did the Stella) so you can get the older models in a lot of places for a lot less than the $139 retail price. Try Ebay also, but deal with a reputable (i.e. good positive rating) dealer and don't forget to figure shipping prices in to the total.

I have a Stradic 5000 on a Lamiglass 9 1/2 ft. rod and it casts like a dream.BPS has the 5000 for 119.88.Just keep the reel clean and it will last for a long time.Hope this helps.

Spinning i would go with the Emcast Plus or the new Emcast Surf. Baitcaster I would say Diawa Slosh 30 or find a 30SHV on Ebay.

Under $100, Shimano Symetre...you can't tell the difference between them and the Stradics.
