those of you diawa lovers need to check out the new saltists. picked one up this week. i didnt think i'd ever find something that i could throw as well as the 525. diawa finally shrank the gear box and moved it forward, and increased it to 6:1:1. sweet reel. im gonna get out tomorrow and throw both at a field on the same rod to see how they compare

Friend of mine had just bought two of them for his heavers... Sweet looking reel, haven't thrown them yet,but low profile, good line capasity for drumming, and as usual for diawa, nice drag..

So is the Saltist more or less Daiwa's replacement for the Grand Wave reels? I have heard they cast great and I have heard they cast awful. I have also heard they are not as "tight" as the Slosh 30 family of reels and are more prone to sand in the gears.

What I am saying is that there is a lot of talk about these reels that I am trying to sort out. Can anyone who has actually thrown then post a review? Thanks a lot!

i've got a slosh30 and shv30...neither of which will ever be used again. i fished the saltist hard for 4 days and had no issues with sand and no blow ups. distance seems to be very close to that of my 525, i need to get to a field to compare. the biggest difference here is the smaller/forward gear box and the gear ratios. the slosh/shvs are uncomfortable to my little dwarf hands and this is not. 525 will still be my go to reel from drummin but the saltists added line capacity will be nice for throwin to cobes

If you boys like the SHA, SHV, Grandwaves, or slosh go a head and put them on the market and buy 1 or two of these. I fished one all week and loved it. Second favorite reel to the 525 Super Extra Mag. If Daiwa had magged this reel I would probably be selling all my 525s. Great drag lots of line capacity and no stinking gear box in the way. Plus the reel is solid aluminum unlike the reels above. For $159 best daiwa fishing reel on the market JMO. They come in a size 20 and a size 30. Next will be a 20.

Well,he let me throw the 20... nw wind at 25 at my back. On the T of the pier...Spool three quarter full with 20,so not that much line on it maybe 150yrds.. I dumped it and the line sprang back and spun backwards on the spool.. :D This is one smmoooooth critter, and cast great.. I don't own one,but probably will shortly... ;)

one is taller than the other the STT30H is the one to get. it is low profile similar to an abu. anyone can get a good grip on that spool.

I checked out the black version of the Saltist 50TH offered by OW. It's the same size as my ABU 10000CL. Sweet reel...

These are the model numbers. The rest of the Saltists are boat reels. The two reels above are low profile surfcasting reels with a breaking system. The other Saltists are boat reels with high profiles and crappy breaking systems.

Thanks for the input. Looks like I need to start dropping hints to Santa!
