Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this reel. There's one on 'a certain internet auction website' ;) for $0.99 (currently). I'm wanting to use it for light surf fishing.

i had a 5500 or 5000ss a couple of years back. they were good. theya re kinda heavy for my taste though.

I have this reel and got it a month ago and caught a ton of blues on it. Reel did great, drag excellent and they are really easy to clean. I would deff pick it up...

Rock solid reel but technology is not as up to date as other brands. In my opinion it does not cast as well as other reels due to its skinny spool.
the only draw back about this reel is that it didn't handle braid as well as newer reels and it doesn't have instant anti-reverse, and another thing is that once the bail mech. starts to mess up your bail may flip back when you cast and cause you to lose lures. Other then these draw back's the reel is very solid and strong, I have pulled in many big blues and rather large bass with these small light reel. I wouldn't go braid with this reel, 15lb mono with 50lb shock leader is what I use to use.
