Why do ya'll use PVC 4 ROD Holder's? I make my own out of Rebar and Galvanized pipe. Last Forever. Would Rebar work for the SURF? Why Not? PVC you probably have too Replace $$$$. How Long do These Last?

I use PVC. I buy ten foot sections and cut them in the middle on an angle. Takes about 1 minute to make and cost next to nothin. Its cheap, easy, and redilly available. Why not use PVC????. I have never had a rod knocked down either. You wiggle that sucker in a good 2 feet you are fine. No complaints about PVC here.

I've had my schedule 20 pvc holders for almost 30 years. I don't use them every day but they're still good as new. Pound them in with a rubber hammer.

How do you attach the rebar to the galv pipe. Weld it??? Not good! Produces poisonous gasses.

I also buy the 10' sections of pvc and make angle cut in the middle for two sand spikes.Carry a pipe cap and 2"x6" x16" board for driving them.then use the board for cutting bait.I know the pounding will scare the fish away but they come back about the time I get 4 outfits set up.

I have nothing against PVC. I was Just Curious. I mainly fish FRESHWATER. Can't wiggle 2' of PVC Pipe in Dirt. Rebar's the way too go. Three small Weld's. A little Poison never Killed anybody. RUST! Rust-Oleum cold gal spray paint. No Rust! Grind off Galvanized Paint, Steel Too Steel. Duh! Then Spray Paint. About as Heavy as 16oz Tallboy. Can You Handle That! Burn your Fishing Spot's  I've got my OWN! http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff166/cmermella/Cats001.jpg Does Anyboby use Rebar for Surf Fishing? I get all my Material's 4 FREE! PVC Also's FREE!

First off nice Kitties, I sure do miss fishn for them.
If your kitty fishn than more then likely your spiking in dirt along a river bank and the rebar rod is a good idea, I have built a few of them myself for using to hold rods on a casting field.
Now if your spiking in sand which most of us do while surf fishing you need something with a little more holding power than just a rebar rod.
Myself and this is just my opinion, I don't want to trust my $400-$600 rod and reels safety to a piece of $2.00 PVC that may break or pull out at any time.
I have found a V wedge holds a lot better than just a round pipe, I know lots of folks have used PVC for years without a seconds trouble and I hope all of their equipment stays safe for years to come.

Trust me "Shooter's Custom's" is the king of hey I can build it bigger, better, wider, taller and make it bend in the middle for no reason than to just be different. That's what made America great, folks asking why must I do it your way when I can do it my way and do it better.

Surf Flush, did you stop reading at that one line or did you miss where I said I have known lots of folks that have used PVC for years with no trouble?

The great thing is I dont have to give sales pitches, my best sales people are the folks that already have them.

i dont use metal spikes- they are heavy, i prefer PVC cuz they are lightweight.

AND, i can only carry 2 lbs. the most. i used to lift weights when i was younger and benched around 500 micrograms.:p

those short pvc pipes, I use em to wedge up aginst my beach chair when the winds howling.

Keeps me from having to chase the chair down the beach.:D

I'll continue to use my Shooter's customs when the need arises, mostly I'm lazy and if I can get by will pull up right close to the water and fish the 45 degree holders off my rod rack.

:fishing:

it's not likely anything that bites my bait is gonna pull my truck into the water, then again I never worry about them pulling a Shooter spike over either, long as I do my part and push it in nice and solid !

Used to use tripods for the best bite detection in the world. (have to when fishing for nonexistent small fish), but now it's go to be the long alloy rod holders, they get your rod up higher and the need for super delicate bite detection doesn't seem to be a must for the big fish out in the ocean.
Should have the gun and foot peddle for the tig welder soon. Then I'll have some tall spikes. I'll need a ladder to get up there and a pair of 'noculars to see the tip, but it should keep the lines out of the water a bit better:)

Another good thing about PVC is that 1 1/2" will slide inside of the 2". they also dont attract lightning like metal rod holders, though I still use my old angle iron footed rod holders.
