Last thursday wife called me at work and said that the basement had water all over. I went home and found that my `18 cu ft freezer had gone out. I lost all the fish, the special cuts, the turkey (2) and the frozen vegetables that I had in it. They brought a new one out today and took the old one. The insurance said that the freezer was too old and that they would pay for part of the food. I am getting around $280 for the food.
While cleaning up I found rust flaking from the bottom of the hot water tank. So I told wife we would use the $280,00 to pay for replacing the water heater.
We bought new food for Christmas and the kids called saying that they could ot make it as they were all sick with the virus going around. Daughter could hardly talk.
I told Annette that we had each other, someone looking over us, our friends so just be happy and enjoy ourselves.
At the start I was really upset but I just thought about what some other people are going through this Christmas and I enjoy what I have in good health, good woman, and good friends.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

J,

Amen to that and you're trully blessed. Now, for the loss food, I guess you can remedy that in the spring huh? ;);)

You two are great! Almost like adopted grandparents to me. You can come over and use my freezer anytime. Just insert the fish and watch them slowly dissapear!

Sounds all too common to my ears, although I excepted a different post. Summer before last I ask my wife to go to the garage and get some steaks out, two days later I go out and the whole freezer is thawed or thawing. Lost plenty of steaks, vension, lamb, duck, turkey, chicken, assorted fish and crab meat, a lot of money and time to get the variety together. Probably over $2,000 but not enough past my ridiculously high deductible to make it worth the claim (can't save on the premiums and make out on the claims at the same time.) Issue is that she and I have differences on locking the freezer, she thinking it's an "inconvenience" to put the stuff down and then lock. We now agree that I don't make enough to afford conveniences.

Also have another to go with your post. Last year my son lost the stringer with fish not once, but three times. First time was sand sharks and blues, second time was two medium stripers and snappers, third time was a 30 inch striper. Guess ya gotta ask why I let it happen three times.... there are reasons and long discussion but ya gotta give your kids positive reinforcement and let them know you still trust them even though your really steaming over the lapse.

Sorry to hear of your loss, looks like its working out, but in my opnion the inconvenience is almost more costly than the actual loss. Guess I need to reinforce to myself that convenience is truly a blessing and that my spot is aweful good these days (two deer in the freezer now~!~ So I've been afforded the convenience of being able find time to go hunting!!!)

to hear about your freezer and hot water tank problems.

Those 2 items seem to go with no warning at all.

I can recommend a Bock water heater, had one last 26 years and it was oil fired. They cost a little bit more, but they last a long time and the recovery time is the best.

Have a Happy New Year.

Sorry about the food loss, but like Tuna said you can make that up in the spring. Hopefully I'll get to come down that way in the spring.

Thanks Trevor
I was more upset about losing the fish than anything. I had to work for them.
