Hey guys and girls!

Not new to obx feeshin, but it's been about 25 years. Been 4 times since Nov. 1st. One of the biggest things that I see different is all of the conventional reels. Not many around back then. Any of you old enough to remember those old black Mitchell's and Silver Daiwas? The other thing I remember is driving around the Coast Gaurd station at Oregon Inlet and fishing all the way to the light house.

I'm sure it's changed a lot since you fished there in the past. Namely, less access. Welcome aboard.:)

..Bubba feesh. I remember those times quite well. Still got several Mitchells 302, 306, 300 along with a couple of the Gold Series Daiwas. Those were some good times up there. The crowds are thicker now and there are houses of obscene preportion being built everywhere the Park Service doesn't control. The fish are still thick except for the big blues and huge grey trout (weakfish). I am kinda thinking the stripers are thinning out also. Loads of drum now probably more than back then and that's a good thing.

Yeap,I remember the ole Mitchells and Diawas... Used to fish piers a lot for kings back then.. Saw more than a couple of those reels do a "meltdown" and lock up on a big king.. :D
I was using squider at first then abu's.. I can remember driving all of Pea Island. Can remember all the drum blitzes that used to occur on s side of Oregon Inlet every spring.. Can remember fishing Buxton Point and being one of maybe three or four conventionals fishing.. Can remember the big bluefish blitzes that were close to insane back then as well.. Stripers were pretty much nonexistant when you were there 25yrs ago,but we have had some good yrs since.. Last yr and this yr were slow, but at least there are some around nowadays.. Cobia fishing has been phenominal since the days you were last here..
It was special back then with no "super mini motels" all over, but it is also special now.. By Hateras being made up of mostly national park, these high dollar developements can't go but so far..Hopefully with the help of OBPA and other groups we can conserve this paradise for future generations to access and enjoy..

Did I catch fish?

1st Trip to OC on a boat-with someone fishing for fish that were not biting instead of fishing for fish that were biting. Must have gotten the bug then.

Second trip to Core Banks on Monday before the storm. Caught my 1st,2nd,3rd,4th,& 5th Puppy Drum. There were seven of us in the group. Changed my rigs so the rest could catch the last two.

Hit the wrong button.
Had to leave Core banks early for the storm. Caught plenty of blues. Ate a few right there on the beach. Used a few for bait and let the rest grow.

Almost got skunked over Thanksgiving close to the point. Did not see much of anyone there catching much though.

Two weeks ago on Monday night I was near the point and lost 5 FF drum rigs and a lot of line. Learned and tested bimini and albright knots since. I will try not to repeat that performance. I did catch fish though, just not what was reeling me all night from 1 am till dawn. so much for getting a nap that night.

Been catching on to what is happening politically out there. I will be sending out a few checks to help support. Hate to ask "Tater" if we could hitch a ride on that bike to the point and for RDT to start selling 3 Swarovski binoculars and 2 Nikon cameras a year instead of a few thousand feeshin poles.

DD, you will have to show me how to use one of those feesh catchin Saltist one day after I get tired of catchin feesh with these funny lookin reels.

thanks guys
