Bought these off fleabay just for the heck of it. Thought they were unique and may actually work. Apparently, they take the place of the left bearing on the Jigmasters, Squidders, etc...just about any non-ball bearing Penn. I also have some older Ocean City reels that the other one may work on. Thought I'd give it a shot anyway. Only info I could find on the web on the company is an ammo company with the same name. Not sure if it's the same company or not.

Can't say I've ever seen them, but I wonder if they work. Interesting idea. :)

A-SQUARE'S FLUID HUB

"This attachment is not a friction device. It works on a fluid shearing action and also gives permanent lubrication to the bearing. After the attachment is properly set, you put your reel on free spool, using your thumb on the reel only for the initial part of the cast. As soon as the bait is in flight you can remove your thumb entirely and the spool will not over-run. You can even hold the butt of your rod in the air to increase your distance. The hardest thing to learn is to keep from thumbing your reel.

Directions for Installation

UNSCREW PLASTIC DIRT PROTECTIVE COVER FROM THE FLUID HUB AND PUT ON OLD BEARING

Model No. 1 fits all Penn Reels using No. 40-60 left side bearings.

Model No. 2 fits Ocean City, J. C. Higgins and Ward's Sport King reels.

To install Model No. 1, remove left side bearing and spring which is opposite reel handle. (DUHHHH!!!) Replace the spring, and screw on the attachment until the reel cannot turn. Now back off 1/4 turn until reel gets free. You are now ready to cast. If you find your cast has been shortened, gradually back off 1/6 turn a time until reel just barely makes an attempt to over-run at the end of the cast. No thumbing is required for proper adjustment. Attachment will take all weights of plugs from 1 to 6 ounces.

All attachments are filled with No. 30 SAE Motor Oil. This oil is for the average fisherman. Experts can go to a much lighter grade of fluid if they find this existing oil cuts down on the length of their casts. To find this out, they can remove a few drops of oil at a time and then later fill with the next lighter grade of fluid. Successive lower grades of oil are 20W, 15W, 10W and 3 in 1 oil. If heavier forces are required, 40 - 50 oil can be used.

To replace oil, remove end screw and tip attachment until oil runs out, rotating reel handle at same time. When going to lighter grades of fluid, flush out with kerosene or similar solvent.

To fill, use eyedropper or a small rod. Rotate reel so that all air bubbles are removed. About one-tenth ounce of oil is required. Inspect attachment from time to time to see if more oil is required.

To install Model No. 2, remove left end plate and replace end bearing with new bearing supplied in box. Replace end plate. Use same spring and follow same directions applying to Penn Reels. This spring may have to be stretched slightly to prevent attachment from backing off. If splined end of the shaft does not grip a worn shaft, pinch ends together slightly with pliers.

Well, I cleaned out both "attachments" with solvent and filled with straight 30 wt oil. I will place it on either one of my jigmasters or maybe my 200 Surfmaster with plastic spool and see what happens. I'll keep you guys posted. I cannot see the INTERNAL make-up of the device, but it is like a knobby, about the diameter of a nickle and about 1/2 inch in depth (the knob part). The bottom part looks like the standard 40-60 Penn bearing, but has a small splined insert. The only thing I can figure is that there is some sort of "vain" inside that rotates through the oil to slow it down. We'll see. Wish me luck!

Yes and no. Put it on my Surfmaster 200 with a plastic spool. I had just rebuilt the reel and the spool spun for a looooooooooong time. After putting the device on, I could get maybe 3 revolutions on it, so I think the 30 wt oil is going to be way too much. I am going to dump it and put 3 in 1 oil in it tomorrow, since I have some, and try it with that. If it's too fast, then I'll go out and try to find something a little thicker. Not sure I can find single viscosity 15 wt. around here in these parts. May have to go to a specialty dealer (i.e. motorcycle/jet ski/etc. Anyway, I'll give it a few casts tomorrow and let you guys know how it went.

I have some old stuff from my step-dad who is in the hospital. Out of respect for him I will not use any of it should he miraculously recover. I pray for his recovery.

The #1 A squares fluid hub will not fit on a Penn Squidder.
I have a Penn #85 and it fits on this reel.
It works well.
I'll let the kids use it when I take them out fishing.
