:fishing: I need some expert advise on which reel I should keep. I got a shimano trinidad sa50 and a daiwa saltiga sa50 for christmas. But I can only keep one because my fiance didn't know which one I liked. Can somebody give me a reason why I should keep one or the other. I like the saltiga over the trinidad because the lever is aluminum and the trinidad is plastic of some sort. Which one should I keep that would last me longer and would be the easiest one to maintain? Remember folks I can only keep one, I have to return the other one for a refund.

i like the saltiga, i had a saltiga surf 30 before not the sa50 you ask about.

but saltigas are top of the line with daiwas on the fishing end.

very nice. better drags then shimano IMO..
not to mention you can upgrade with carbontex to make it even better.

You're a lucky, lucky man.

As for the reel, it depends on what you're going to use it for. I'm going to assume you're surf fishing so I'll say keep the Daiwa. You can use the Trinidad but I don't think that is what it was specifically designed for.

I was thinking the same. The saltiga looks more durable and it comes with a little more than trinida. Like aluminum rod clamp vs the polymer or plastic one. Plus it comes with a pouch. I'm going to use the reel for surf and deep sea once in a while whenever I get a chance. School is tough for me right now. But Merry christmas and Happy New year and thanks for the reply.:fishing:

hmm. the sa50 is kinda big for surf dont ya think? imo the 40 is the largest size id use on the surf.

Yeah I know but when I go deep sea I'd like the larger reels. I'm just going to try this one out at the pier a couple of times. I usually bring my newell 344 out there with my jigmaster.:fishing:

I own both reels. Both have tremendous cranking power for their size. They are awesome jigging reels as well. And both are still very castable. If I had to choose one star drag reel as an all around light offshore/inshore/heavy duty surf reel, I would choose the saltiga50.
