Have any of you ever replaced the trebles on Gotcha plugs? I see where I need to cut the wire to do it, but I am left wondering what wire to use to replace them. Thanks.

I think I would cut the eye of the old treble pry it open and remove it. Then do the same to the replacement treble and bend it shut. Be sure to cut ton the right side of the eye. Also make sure it hangs right. The body of the gotcha fits between two hooks when hung properly. Otherwise the front treble will hit the body . If this happens rotate the hook 180 degrees.

gotchas are pretty simple to re-wire.
get urself some 131lb wire, or some 108(i think i usually use 108) , dont really want to use lighter wire b/c they get torque on all the time if ur catching fish/pulling hooks outa fish's mouth etc etc

then use as small a split ring as possible. If they have been beat up, then cut the wire, repaint and rewire. A little practice is all you need, plus a small vice[4"] and pliers. wdbrand.

oh! one more thing, on the white bodies gotchas, that get all torn up with teeth marks etc, take some light grit sand paper and run it over the plug body a few times..comes out looking like new ;-)

There is a way to replace the hooks on the gotcha. I have used 100# wire but prefer 130#.
Start by cutting the old stuff off that needs to be repaired. Dissect it looking closely at how the hooks lay on the lure and the position of the loops on the ends of the wire. Some that I have taken apart don’t have a twist in the end of the hook and have just a bend in the wire. I don’t prefer this so I put the twist in. You will need a length of wire at least 12" long two trebles (one #2 and one #4). I prefer gold trebles but use what you like.
Start with the length of wire and the #2 treble. Take the hook and put it on one of the wire with a simple loose twist, not a haywire twist about one inch long. This will be the hook that hangs out the back of the gotcha and will be more than enough.
On the other end put a small bent about an 1/8” from the end and 1/8” long. This will aid in passing the wire through the plug. Pass the wire through the first hole in the plastic part of the plug. Put the #4 treble hook on the wire making sure that you put the hook on so that it lays with one hook pointing down and the other two up.
Pass the wire through the bottom hole of the plug the lead head and out the top. Pull the wire snugly so that the #4 treble pulls up.
Now the harder part. Pass the wire back through the same hole in the front of the lure and form a loop. This is where the 16 penny nail that has bent to form a “J” comes in. Take that 16 penny nail and put it in the wire loop and take the tag end of the wire that should be hanging out the bottom of the lure that. Take a pair of pliers and pull this wire tight and hold it. Now turn the nail and twist it. Don’t turn it more than four or five times or the wire will break inside the lure.
Once this is done take wire cutters and cut the tag as close to the body of the lure as possible making sure you don’t nick or cut the main wire.
The key to this in my opinion is to make sure things are too tight. The reason for this is because as you put the twist in with the nail things will snug up just right. This along with how the hooks lay on the lure.
The drawing should help to understand.
